I really like my Large Sebenza, but I have often wanted a Sebenza slightly larger. I would like a real heavy duty knife - with a 4" blade, 3/16 thick stock, and Flat ground.

Would anyone else like a knife like this? I would buy one today if available!

I spoke with Chris on the phone recently, asking him if it was possible to order a knife like the one you're describing, as a special order. The answer was no. He said he is not a custom maker and everything in his shop is set up for the what he now offers. He also said it is his philosophy that a folder should only be used for certain tasks, and the Sebenza is plenty strong enough for those tasks. Anything more than that should be done with a fixed blade. While I do agree with him to a degree, there is still something very apealing about a folder that can actually take some abuse, like the Strider folders.
An XL heavy-duty Sebenza would be incredible.

Yes, an XL sebenza would be awesome!

However, I am finding that with my Large Classic, I have to "choke up" a bit on the handle in order to one-hand flip it open. If it was any larger, it would be even more difficult. That would be a deterrent, for sure.

But it would sure be nice to hold in your hand or to look at!

All for it! Until it becomes a reality;) I am going to carry the next best thing to an XL Sebbie............a Cuda MAXX 5.5! Camillus got it right with this one. Check one out if you haven't already.

Keep in mind it is not a Sebenza, as NO OTHER production folder in the world can match a Sebbie!!:D

They do look very nice. I think I need to learn more about them.
I'd like to hears anyones thoughts on D2 steel.

The Ralph/Wilson collaboration will be interesting to watch. There are lots of other knives that would likely fill this niche also.

I always get a tickle out of these threads.

There was another thread begging for an XL Sebbie in March...

...one about adding a flipper to the Mnandi below...

...one about a Mnandi between L & S Sebenza in February...

...one about a Medium Sebenza in December...

...one about a larger Mnandi last August...

I forget if I had a point -- it's just an observation, I guess.

I am also wondering if they are using D2 or the CPM modified D2?

IIRC Darrel uses Crucible's airdi-150 for his D2 blades which contains more chrome. I think I read that in a newsletter but can't find it right now.

Yes, I read that on his website.
Isn't D2 somewhat on the brittle side, relatively speaking? In a large, hard use folder, I think toughness is important.

Relative to 5160, L6, yeah, it's brittle. Compared to BG42, ATS-34, 154CM, it is extremely tough.

D2 is perhaps my favorite steel. (caveat: I haven't used S30V yet).
