On most of the ones I see, there is a thumb stud through the blade, and the blade has a hump at the rear to have a place for it.

I have seen a couple that have a thumb disc, attached to the spine of the blade like an Emerson. The blade is more normal looking with no extra hump.

Are the disc versions older or newer? Am I going to find one easily, or do most have the stud setup?

Hiya Carl,
The 60TX was the first, with the disc. The 70TX came along a little later, with the ambi- thumb stud. I own and have used both, I find no real difference in the knives, both work well. The 60 seemed to come the colors silver, red, black. I think the colors for the 70 included green. 70TX shown below.

I took one of these apart once and showed off the 26 different parts here on the forum.

I have the 60TX and the 70TX in black. These are very well made knives and a bargain for the 20 bucks or so that I paid for each of them. The 70TX might be a little more comfortable for me to hold due to the increased blade height which I use as a thumb rest, but these are both great knives.
