Does anyone know anything about X15 steel? I am looking at a Benchmade Griptilian 551H20 and wonder how it stacks up against sv30.
Thanks

If I remember right Benchmade switched to x15tn after they decided that the H1 steel they were using in their dive models didn't have enough edge retention for their taste. X15 is supposed to have better edge retention at the cost of being less corrosion resistent, but still signifigantly more rust resistant than the majority of steels. I think its a French steel in origin.

Its a good steel, holds an edge ok with BM's heat treat but I wouldn't put it too near s30v, more like a solid AUS 8 in my experience.

I have that knife. I like it. Typical BM the bevel sucked. I convexed it. Having convexed it, i would say the edge holds decently. Maybe a little more then AUS 8. It doesnt stay hair popping sharp for a very long time, but working sharp stays for quite a while. Especially using it in fishing. It definitly lasts longer then my H1 spyderco. Have not had a issue with corrosion and i abuse it in saltwater on purpose.

thanks for the input guys, I think I get a Benchmade Griptillian with a SV30 blade, Equipped to Survive sells one with orange scales that should be harder to lose.
