X26.jpg

Yeah , $12.74 Oz banana republic Dollaroo's to my door
What's a Dollaroo ? Well it's a lot like an American Green Back , only worth a lot less ! Much like our national animal is worth so much , it's used for pet food !

Ok , this is about a very budget X26 knife . & This one might be my ............... 3rd or 4th X26 . Yes , I actually like the X26 & all it's flaws .

Flaw 1 - ... Nylon bushes for the blade . Makes the blade a little floppy ! Though this latest one seems to be ok ! ( That's disappointing - I was looking forward to replacing them with washers )
Flaw 2 - ... Rubbish thumb stud , though again ... This one seems to be ok !
Flaw 3 - ... Sloppy assembly ( or everything is lose ) ... Again , this one seems to be ok !

So apparently , I thought I was buying a project ... And instead I get a knife that needs no work ... (?)
I'm going to replace the nylon bushes with brass washers in anyway .. Just makes for a really solid tight knife .
In anyway , a project knife . Can I make this knife a little bushcrafty ? Will see ....
I did test a X26 some time ago , 200+ slices if memory serves .

Closed length - 96mm
Open length - 162mm
All metal construction ( except for the nylon washers )
Button lock
Some sort of CrMov steel ? Lets call it mystery steel !
This knife is Burger Money ( You buy a burger with the lot for the same Dollaroo's )
I guess I can sharpen it ( factory edge is not that sharp ) & slice some rope to see what a Burger with the lot can do !

$12.74 Dollaroo's to my door !
Edge began to roll around 200 slices & failed after 300 slices ... ( Stropped back strong )
A 300 slice knife for $12.74 Dollaroo's ..
I kind of recall someone testing a $240 Banana knife that failed around 70 slices .. And people actually think it's good (?) .... Fanboys !

Anyways .. My sharpening job was poor ( quick N dirty ) .
I also ground the spine then stoned it to make it scrape wood and ferro .
I only have to wait for those washers now ..
But this knife is going to be part of a kit . Survival / bushcrafty / fire starting kit that is going to be as small as possible .
I want to be able to stook these kits here there N anywhere for minimal Dollaroo's .
And the knife has to be at least average ... And 300 slices is a very nice average .
And I don't want to be investing huge amounts of money on this project , which is why access to cheap but useful knives is a good thing !
If we divide our investment by the return = $0.042 per slice .. or 4 cents a slice to round off . ( That's a cheap good knife )
