I didn't mention this in the thread on the XHP Recon 1 because I wanted to see who was paying attention (look at the pic there with 2 boxes), but Cold Steel also had a very few XHP AK-47s at Blade. Funny no one has mentioned it as they were right in plain sight. Same blade steel, DLC coating, and Triad Lock as the new Recon1s, Glad I was there to pick up a few. Sweet!

Any word on when these will be hitting the streets?

Maybe I have just been lucky, but all five of my Cold Steel folders have had been excellent specimens. No bladeplay, centered, excellent fit and finish, especially for such inexpensive knives. My only wish has been for some models with better steel, and XHP seems like a perfect choice. I will be buying some of these.

I personally have no problem with the current blade steel, because CS has the heat treat for AUS 8A correct, and it keeps very tough, easily sharpened knives affordable for just about anyone. The XHP with DLC coating is awful sweet though, and should appeal to those wanting an upgrade in both steel and blade coating. The DLC is the same as on the Warcraft Tanto and it is tough stuff.

Few more pics as requested.

Now how 'bout an American Lawman in premium attire? Anyone, anyone?

I would think that we shall see new blade steel options in most of the Cold Steel folder lines for 2015.

All the previous happenings point that way:

1. Andrew Demko posted in a thread here before about new blade steels and models being introduced in the future. This was just before the Warcraft Tanto was introduced.

2. The accidental posting of 2015 models on the Cold Steel website showing new blade steels in their various folder lines.

3. The Recon 1 and AK-47 in Carpenter CTS-XHP blade steel and DLC at the 2014 Blade Show.

4. It costs 1.5 times more to make knives in Japan now because of inflation and currency exchange rates (going from what another knife company says). A lot of their previously made in Japan products have been phased out and moved to Taiwan because of this.

I would figure that it costs more for steel from there too.

I have to say that ever since Andrew Demko signed on, Cold Steel has been doing a lot of great new products!

Serious price jump there!

They were going for $135 when they first posted them for sale.

Oh, that was just for the knife before they added the other stuff though.
