I looked for info on the 11th gorkha rifles online but I couldn't find anything.. just infor on 1st-10th? Is this an actual regiment.. modern or historical?

Does that mean there are no more Gurhka Regiments ?

I recall reading that the British made the "rounds" and the villages "submitted" their canidates. If they did not make muster,[great shame to the village], they had to wait till the following year to reapply trials for British duty.

Vicks,
The 11th Gorkha Rifles were a new regiment of 3,398 men and officers from the 7th and 10th Gurkha Rifles who opted for service in India after independence.
They were designated that in February of 1948 and their last posting that I know of was in Lucknow in 1983.

India has kept 4 or 5 Gurkha Regiments and many are mixed with other Indian Regiments and battalions.

In July of 1994 the 2nd, 6th, 7th and 10th were amalgamated into one Regiment designated the Royal Gurkha Rifles in England.

The Gurkha Reserve Unit formed in 1981 still continues to serve in Brunei and there still is The Gurkha Contingent of the Singapore Police.

For the record, The British Army maintains the 1st BN and 2nd Bn Royal Gurkha Rifles as well as Gurkha support units such as the engineers signals and transport units.
Some British army regiments such as the Parachute Regiment and the Royal Scots have Gurkha Reinforcement companies.
Although there have been cuts and deactivations the Gurkhas are as of now very much active....Cheers!
