I just noticed this baby over there, and thought WOW!
That's a great knife for that price.
I don't know which steel they used, but I emailed AG Russel to find out.
For now, I'll just assume that it's AUS8, just like their other models.

BTW, I saw a near identical knife elsewhere for around 70.
NOT exactly the same, but close enough. (color, handle material)
I think AG is picking at straws on calling their's exclusive.
It seems like more of a ploy to charge more. IMO, of course.

no offense but I think it's ugly. I'm not sure what kind of blade shape that is - a belly but no point. Looks like a fat stubby cohiba.

but it's all relative anyway....

As they say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
so it is with this knife. While the visuals are
very good overall the blade shape to odd to attract
many buyers.

If YOU like the knife for yourself then, bravo, buy
it. :) After all you are the only person to please
with it.

I don't want to pile on here, but I share that opinion. I handled one a couple of weeks ago at a local gun show. They certainly do get your attention, but I kept asking myself "Why would I want a blade shaped like this?" I don't get it, but then my tastes run toward the more parochial... geegee

Why not?
Sure, the blade looks a little different, but it's pointy and sharp where it needs to be. Since I never handled one, I really can't tell, but it doesn't look like it would have trouble doing what any other folder of a similar size or style could do.

The new XiKar® Extreme Walker Lock knife is made in Italy... We had them make a knife with a 3-1/8" modified Tanto blade of Z60CDV14 with black Teflon® coating...

There's yer answer, from that same page. Z60CDV14 is the steel. Sounds European, which makes sense coming from Italy. Past that, I don't have any info or alloy compositional data.

Z60CDV14? Anyone?

(... sound of crickets...)

Ok, postscript:

I didn't look very hard, but it appears that Z60CDV14 is Swedish, and it may be similar to AUS-6 in composition. If true, pretty simple and mediocre stuff. Saw some web pages where CRKT was using Z60CDV14 at Rc57...

That's the other reason I like it, I'm a big fan of small knives. But flat grinding a piece of VG-10 -- even one that small -- and machining titanium handles for it -- even ones that small... I still have no clue how they can do that, sell it for twenty bucks, and make money. That's almost less than a Spyderco Ladybug.

They may not be making very much off of them...my dad told me about a guy who's motto was "I'd rather have 10,000 pennies than 10 $100 bills" in reference to how he made his profits. He was a millionaire, in the 70's.

I guess the same could apply here, if they're only making 1.50 or 2.00 off of each one, and they sell thousands of them...;)

I just bought one of the Ti Pen knives, I'll be sure to post a review whenever it arrives :) I have a feeling that this will be the perfect wallet knife.
