Wondering if anyone has any experience with Xikar knives? In particular the Explorer. Never seen one upclose. Realize they are made in Taiwan, but for the price thought it might make a good user, just to try something different.

ahhh the explorer...

just a couple of weeks ago i also got curious about that one.

piked up one for about 20 or so bucks.

its got decent enough fit & finish for that price range.
good sized.

the lock diddnt instill the upmost confidence. but i would say thats just my imagination and its more than good enough.

its decent enough i guess, but in that price range i'd try a Byrd knife

Ya I was thinking the same thing. Already decided to get a G-10 Cara Cara.
Just wondering if there was something to get excited about with the Xikars.
Thanks for the input.

nope nothing at all to get excited about .

i think xikars were created for the executive stogie smokin, country clubbin crowd. not the knife ppl.

Great choice by the way!
in my origional post i was actually going to suggest one of the g10 offerings, but thought: "not everybody likes g10."

imo the byrd g10 isnt the grippiest but its easy on the pocket and looks good none the less.

I'm kinda excited to get one, should show up later this week... with all the good reviews on here and priced like they are.. I've found that if I don't get enough grip out of whatever material they are made of, I just cut some contoured strips of skateboard tape (fine) not coarse. Just got done doing that to a whirlwind I picked up used. Man that thing WAS slick.
