Hi guys, I just ordered one of the xm-18 3 inch flippers. was looking for opinions on how useful the flipper is and how well it works on this small of a blade? any feedback greatly appreciated.

I think it is simply a personal choice thing. I am not one to sit around flicking their knife. On a 3" blade, especially a Slicer, I think the Flipper gets in the way. People will now line up to disagree with me. Try both and make up your own mind.

I like the 3" with and without flipper (whereas I greatly prefer the 3.5" and 4" with flipper). I can flip my 3" XM flipper pretty easily despite the small amount of leverage and light blade once you know the technique (still not as easily as the 3.5" and 4"). I carry my 3" a lot with business attire and tip down so the flipper would be on the seam side, therefore, in that configuration I prefer the 3" non-flipper.

This has been discussed a number of times so a search on the forum would also be a good idea if you haven't done that.

I really like the flipper action!
Before i bought it i thought of having one without it but if you can have an alternative to the thumbstuds why the hell not?! I wish more knives were like that.
For me it isn't a disadvantage at all!

Good deal! Congrats. I had written an opinion but decided to leave it at "I like the flipper".
Definately doesn't get in the way and on the 3" really is a nice safety barrier keeping your meats back safe and sound from the business edge.
Flips open nice and crisp, nice little "Whack" or as stewie says, "Hwhack"
Really works nicely.

I love this knife and it was my EDC today.

i have medium sized hands and the flipper on the 3" is to uncomfortable for me to use if i want to have a secure grip. dont get me wrong it still flips amazing but i find with a lighter blade it does not flip as well as a 3.5' or 24. for me 3"= non-flipper, 3.5"= flipper.

I'm a flipper guy. I find myself using the flipper not only to open, but as finger protection when both using and closing the knife.

I like the extra option of having a flipper and thumb studs. Usually on a dedicated flipper the studs only act as blade stops. I like on the XM that both deployment methods are available and easy to use.
