 OK saw it ,like it , where to get it ??

Looks like a really well made Frame lock 3" blade would be perfect

ALL The dealers I checked were out ??

How many variations of this XM-18 ??

Just scan the exchange forums on here.. that is your only hope of getting one.. seriously, not kidding. You will have to get one second hand.. they are usually sold out by the time the dealers get them.

Unless you are a soldier or emergency service (police, fireman..) if you are, then you can contact him personally and he will put you ahead of anyone.

Best of luck to you my friend. When these do come up on the forum for a reasonable price, they are gone in a matter of minutes. Took me 6 months of constant scanning the forum to snag a 3.5 and then another year before I found someone will to trade with for a 3 inch model. My advice is dont be in a hurry to score one.

I was afraid of that ! I can be patient - it's not easy .

Create a thread in the Wanted To Buy section of the Exchange. You'd be surprised how many people have something to sell. It would not hurt your chances of getting one. Here is some motivation for you...

I guess I got lucky. I didn't even try to look for one because I knew they were impossible to find. One literally just fell in my lap... lol :D.. wasn't even looking for it. At first I didn't even know if I wanted it, but decided to take it because of the rarity.. glad I did. Sometimes you just get lucky.

Damn, I need to live in this place where it rains XM-18s... but then again, my head would be a little sore.

I'm in no hurry to get my XM-18, but you got competition OP.

You must climb the tallest mountain and grab the Purple flower than bring it down to Rick himself...I bet there might be a shipment next year soon though if you do that!

Patience isn't the problem. I can easily find a 3.5" XM-18 with nicely matching scales. The problem is that these are rarely ever found under $550-$600. It's more a problem of money rather than availability.

Frankly I find myself wondering why I wouldn't get a nice full sized japanese katana for the same price. Or at least a scrapizashi. At least that one takes down small trees.

Because you can't walk around the city with a katana in your pocket...

Because it is a HINDERER, man!! Once you own one, you will get it. Kinda like the weapon of a true Jedi, not a blaster like a Katana.

True, but something about the price tag makes me a wee bit twitchy. Namely if Mr. Officer decides that he likes my knife so much that he takes it for himself if some sheep bleats at me because my knife scared them. Of course, that might be a moot point since I normally carry 2 knives with me which would add up to about $400 anyways.

I might decide to pick one up if I can sell a few of the 20 something knives I don't even use anymore.

But I still get the feeling that I might get slammed by buyer's remorse when I buy a used and sharpened(multiple times) xm-18 for $600 and it didn't come with gold anodized accents with gemstones embedded in the titanium handles like some of the Sebenzas.

Not to start yet another Sebenza VS XM-18 debate or anything. I'm just not entirely sure I can fully appreciate the XM-18 being a person who uses his knives as tools and also that my ZT 0301 is already pretty close to perfection aside from the blade not being a supersteel.

The police have no reason to single you out and search you unless your behavior would indicate that it is a necessity. Again, in any environment when you pull a knife out of your pocket, your behaviour dictates what will occur. If you pull out your knife and start waving it wildly, while screaming and banging your fist on a table...yes, there will be problems.

In all fairness, any midtech knife is typically appreicated much more by the knife enthusiast. A person that needs an economy folder just does not have the vested interest or desire to learn about what that knife is. It cuts the same as other knives, it's still a tool - but it is also much more. I use my XM-18, but given the overall design of the tool, it is not the ideal tool for every task.

That's not strictly true, as my coworker did get fined for skateboarding down a hill when it was actually his friend who did it. There's also been reports on the news about the police faking their clock-ins(that is, reporting in for an 8 hour shift while sleeping for 7 of those hours).

Plus Hawaii isn't exactly a knife-friendly state, so I would think that Mr. Officer would go after me if he sees the knife clipped to my pocket. Not that I'm making blanket statements or anything. Just wanted to remind everyone that having a badge isn't exactly a badge of honor that automatically puts one on the side of all that is just, honest, and true. Officers are human too, and some humans are assholes.

As for the XM-18, I'm still a bit confused as to its selling point. Comparing it to my ZT 0301, it's roughly the same makeup of titanium and G-10. But I'm wondering if the fit and finish is really worth the extra $400. My 0301 is the smoothest opening and closing knife I have ever handled, it locks up solid as a tank and has never failed me in a task. But again, as there are so many people willing to pay $600 for even a used one, I can't help but think that there is indeed something worth paying for there.

Ah, I see now. You are not in the CONUS, so that indeed does change things a bit. I didn't pay anywhere near that price and mine was only previously handled by the person that ground and assembled it. When I did get it, it changed my view on how well built knives can be. It's something that you have to just handle to truly appreciate it. Very close tolerances, premium materials, thoughtful engineering, and an excellent ergonomics.
The ZT 0301 is an excellent knife (I have a 0302), but the XM-18 is just in a different catagory all together. Is it worth the extra money? Depends on too many factors to throw out a generic answer. It's a relatively safe investment though, if you do not like it you can easily get your money back for it.

I have 3.5 model great knife I really like it , but to be honest I dont see why would you spend $600+ on it ,same goes for Strider .
I got mine from sale forum and it didnt took long to find it .

Ah yes, I forgot to take into account that a knife that sells like hotcakes is a selling point in itself.
