Put a new Ti scale to replace the G-10 with the liner and am now facing a dilemma.
If I keep the pivot screw loose enough to be able to flip it open without a wrist movement, there is is a noticeable side play in the blade.
If I tighten it (with a thumb nail) enough to eliminate the play, the baled does not move as easily. I can still comfortably open it with the studs or by flipping with a wrist, but not just with the flipper as I used to be able to with the original set up.
Is this normal or have I possibly missed something when reassembling? I did put the washers back, but am not sure if I did that corectly. I notice that one side on the washers felt smoother. Should this smooth side face the blade or the scales?
I am new to Hinderers.
Thank you in advance

Lubricate.

If that does not help please e-mail me and I will help you sort things a bit. Be prepared to disassemble and start again.

In addition to N2K's offer to help, here is a step-by step on proper blade adjustment and centering. On a personal note (as N2K indicated) a complete disassembly and reassembly being careful to ensure all parts are "seating" nicely often times gets things right and as with most things practice makes perfect.

1. Open blade to 90 degrees and tighten pivot so that it is tight.

2. Close the blade and loosen frame screws so they aren’t tight, but still holding the frame together.

3. While the blade is still in the closed position, pull blade towards the side you want the blade to move.

4. While pulling blade, tighten the frame screws.

5. Loosen the pivot and adjust it to the desired tension.

Great
Thanks a lot.
I knew I needed some schooling

As always good advice from the guys above. I would add though, smaller washer should go on the lockbar side and I never noticed one side of the washer being smoother than the other but if that's the case then smooth side to the blade.

Strider is right about the washers being different sizes and trust me, I switched mine in my one XM18 3.5" and when I looked outside that evening there was a Black Suburban parked at the end of my driveway.
I still have them in backwards ( I know this is shocking but, I have a rebellious side) put yours in the right way.
Black Suburbans are scarey.
