I received an XM-18 this week.
I ordered a 3.5 inch, stonewashed, non-flipper with a black handle.

The overall design and construction is a cross between CRK and Strider, exactly what I was hoping for. It combines the best attributes of both brands, minus the drawbacks. If I were designing a knife, for my specific use, it would be very close to this. For its intended use, this is an excellent knife.

My initial thoughts concerning fit & finish, design, ergonomics, and overall function have been very good indeed. This may be the first knife brand I’ve used that deserves the hype it receives on this forum.

I have been putting this knife through some daily outdoor use and will do a more in-depth review later on.

BTW, I only paid $395 for this knife ‘cause I’m not rich. :D

well you got a great deal then.. given I have a hard time finding any under 600...

Good to see you using it though... I would love to have one..

you must have been on a waitlist for that forever.

I wasn’t on any waiting list.
I ordered it from Rick last week.

I had pretty much given up on finding one for a decent price, dealer or otherwise.
There was no way I was going to pay the ridiculous scalper prices being asked on the various For Sale/auction sites.
I wrote Rick a letter asking him about the availability of this knife.
To my surprise, he responded favorably.

Maybe it was the professional, courteous nature of the letter I sent him.
I did use proper grammar and punctuation also. Some people still appreciate that.

I didn’t mention that I was a volunteer firefighter on the North Slope in my letter, but maybe he found my name on a firefighter database or something. I guess that moves you up on the list. I can’t say for sure if this is what helped get me the knife or not.

Maybe Rick just felt sorry for me. LOL!

That’s about all I can tell you. I was as surprised as anyone that I could get one so soon.

I know a lot of good stuff has been written about this knife. But I must say, this is easily the finest folder I have ever purchased. A lot of thought and love went into this knife.
I have absolutely no regrets with this one.

That's the ticket right there. I believe that he pushes LEOs and Fire Fighters to the top of the list. Congratulations on a fantastic knife. I've been trying to use mine as much as possible. It's a beast.

Not just lucky, a volunteer firefighter!

Rick has recognised your commitment to your community.

Volunteer members of the emergency services deserve the utmost respect.

Thank you!

I never thought much about it really.

I liked going through fire school training even though they beat me down like a dog! I learned a lot. I was happy that I could keep up with all the young fellers. I was 10-20 years older than most of the guys.

Like I said, I can't be for sure if this helped me get the knife or not. I didn't mention it in my letter to Rick. But if it did make a difference, I guess the training paid off in more ways than one.
