I Love my XM 18 Spanto Grind non flipper. I am going to order a second XM18 flipper, leaving me with the blade grind debate. I wonder if the spear point blade would be more aggressive in a self defense role. I know Rick's blade geometry is brilliant! I think you get the best of both worlds with the Spanto blade. Any opinions on the piercing capability of the Spanto Vs. the Spear point blades.

Perhaps you know something I don't. I assume that unless you are talking about ordering a custom piece, spear point is not an option. Production models are Spanto and Slicer. Like I repeat often, unique pieces come up at shows and gatherings. Sky's the limit there. But direct order of a Spear point? Or direct order of a custom??

I stand corrected! It would be the Gen. 4 XM 18 Slicer Grind Vs. Spanto. The salesman at a second market store told me it was a " SpearPoint". After reviewing the website, it is a " Slicer Grind ". Thanks for the heads up. How about an opinion on these two grinds/blades. I need to let the gentlemen know Monday, as he is holding one of each. Thanks Again.

I Personally think of my XM more as a tool than a weapon but if your priority is piercing strength then the Spanto should be your choice. Go back and research this forum as there is much discussion on the pros and cons of each.

Looking at all the information you have provided here, I suggest the following:
Because you already own a Spanto, buy the flipper Slicer. It will do as it's name suggests--slice! I keep my Spantos sharp and they slice very nice. (yep, I rhymed). But the slicer was designed to out-slice others and it's thinner tip is stab-ready.
Because you have the robust Spanto and an opportunity to get a Slicer, that's my recommendation. Better do it quickly, if I discover who's selling these…I might have to try to beat you to it. :P :) :D
