Hi everyone,

I recently bought my first Hinderer. It's a non flipper XM24, bead blasted frame, stonewashed blade and dark earth scale. I love it!!

However I'm struggling to open it with the thumb stud, not sure if it's just my poor technique or just that the detent is really strong.

Any advice gratefully received.

Perhaps you are "trying" too hard. My non-flipper is smooth, surprisingly smooth and easy to deploy. I am a flipper guy so was skeptical about non-flippers till I got one.

Ok, back to your question, try not to deploy by pressing wicked hard, the way many other knives require.
If you know how to flick a thumbstud open that will help too.
I just grabbed the 3.5 flipper out of my pocket and here's an easy way to deploy by thumbstud: place the nail of your thumb in contact with the stud and move your thumb up/out to flick the knife open.

Try using some wrist action and snap your wrist after you first start to thumb it out...

The description that clicked with me is practice as if you are flicking a coin from your thumb and forefinger.
Same action.

Check to see where your index finger and middle fingers are. If you are sqeezing on the lock bar it will be hard to open

Thanks guys, I reckon I was trying too hard. My wife just picked it up and flipped it open easily!!

Glad you worked it out.

The XM is smooth. Because they are overbuilt you kind of want to apply manly forces, but there is no need. Just take a few minutes to develope a technique / system that works for you and enjoy.
