I was just wondering if Rick has any xm's made for lefties, or possible in the future. I really want to pull the trigger but,im just not comfortable parting with that kind of money if it wasnt a left handed knife :(

believe me - get a XM 18!!!

i am left handed and the regular XM18 is just perfect!!! just got my first last week - i even find the liner lock to be more comfortable for lefthanded use (engaging the lock with the index finger)

I am a righty. However, the XM is one of the few knives that are designed to be right handed that I can reliably open and close with my left hand. I am a true righty too. I can do very little with my left hand;)

PM cooldaddyfunk. He's a lefty and has a really nice collection of XMs. I know he has mentioned that they work great for lefties too.

I appreciate everyones input and encouragement on getting the XM. my concern with being a lefty is when I hold a framelock knife designed for a right hander.... gripping it tightly could/might push the lock outward releasing the blade, (if that makes sense to all of you). This is my only concern.

I just tried it (was curious) definitely not an issue. Actually a tight grip causes your index finger to keep the lock bar firmly in place.

Not sure how you hold a framelock, but all my grips do more to secure/tighten the lockbar, not release it, whether holding with my right or left hand.

I suggest you become ambidextrous, you becoming ambi is far more probable than a lefty XM.

:)

I think Hinderer was entertaining the possibility, but it's been a year or two since I have heard anything about it.

After reading this thread I played with mine multiple times today with my left hand. You're GTG!! The clip being on the inboard side makes it actually a little more comfortable!

As a lefty, manipulating the lock is not really an issue. It would be nice though if the option was there to have the non-lock side drilled and tapped for lefty tip up carry though…just a thought :)

I'm a lefty and can easily open and close either of my XM-18 3.5" flippers.
I find keeping the pocket clip in the tip down carry position has me resting my thumb on the clip instead of the lock bar while using the flipper.
Using the thumb stud is easily done left or right handed also.
