Do any of you old salts (like me!) remember a US Army comic issued to troops back in the '60's/'70's showing the then-new XM177 carbine??? My motor transport unit received a bunch of these in 1971, but of course mine didn't survive...The comic pamphlet had a big-breasted broad on the cover (I believe holding the rifle), with the title "Here Comes Shorty!"...

I'm trying to locate one...or at least get the Army pamphlet number...or a scan/pic of the front cover...

It was *NOT* this one -

Thank You! :)

The comic was called P*S: Preventive Maintenance Monthly. The big breasted blonde was a creation of Will Eisner called Connie Rodd.

The Army's LOGSA site now publishes P*S and may have information on back issues. Links on their site don't go back very far (I couldn't find any reference to the XM177) but they may have more info if you email them them. https://www.logsa.army.mil/psmag/pshome.cfm

Hello Java! :)

Thanks for your reply!

I did find several P*S comics listed on various book sites, but IIRC, the pamphlet I'm looking for wasn't a P*S pamphlet, although it may have started (or ended up as) one...

Here's a description from eBay for the pamphlet which I think superseded the "Here Comes Shorty!" pamphlet...

Up for bid is a US ARMY Vietnam .223 - 5.56 mm Colt Rifle Comic Book Manual.
Dated July 1, 1969.
It’s official title “DA Pam 750-30 – The M16A1 Rifle – Operation and Preventive Maintenance”.
Authorized by order of the U.S. Army..

You'll notice that there's no P*S on the cover...but it is a Will Eisner graphics pamphlet...

This pamphlet is *NOT* the one I'm interested in finding, although it does have a couple pages with the head of the blonde and the "Here Comes Shorty!" title in small letters on the page...which is why I think the Shorty pamphlet was incorporated into the larger M16A1 pamphlet, and the Shorty pamphlet probably destroyed/withdrawn from distribution...(Which may explain how my Motor-T batt got them)... :(

Yep, I remember them and the PM pamphlet as well. Good luck finding one. I shouldn't be surprised that ebay had one but somehow I am. Oh well.
