Looking to grab an XM18 3.5. It’s been about 5 years since I’ve had one, and that one had a spanto grind. Wanting to check out the Gen 6’s. Looking at either a spearpoint or slicer grind. For those of you that have both, any preference one way or the other? Looking for the better slicer (no pun intended).

And pics are always great!

I’ve got a XM-18 Skinny with the slicer blade. I doubt you’ll find a better slicer Hinderer. Hopefully they run them again soon. I like the look of other Hinderer blade grinds but for EDC and practicality, I love the slicer. Sorry, I haven’t tried both personally but I’ve heard a lot of talk From Hinderer people about the skinny slicers being ideal and hoping for more production. I’m sure the regular XM -18 variant would be a great one too.

I have a Spearpoint and a Skinny Slicer. If it's the better slicer you're looking for then I highly recommend the Skinny Slicer. BTE it measures very close to if not better than a Spyderco PM2.

Is it just me or are the new gen6 spearpoints thinner behind the edge than the old gen4s?

All the Gen 6/triways I’ve handles are significantly thinner behind the edge than the Gen4s. And I’ve reprofiled many examples from both on the Wicked Edge, where you definitely notice how much steel is behind that edge, lol.

Hi,
I am searching around for a new everyday knife. I want one with a locking blade. In searching around I see there are differant types of locking blades.
Like the "locking liner".mcdvoice mybkexperience tellhappystar
The blade I use now is on the leather man wave. What type of locking blade is this?
What are all the different types of locking blades?
Is one better then the other?
thanks,
rahulsaha.

I have several skinnies, compared to the normal XM18, they do feel a little flimsy.

For the normal thickness XM18, the slicer is the best cutter. You loose a little cutting performance with the spear-point, but there is plenty left, and the tip is stronger.

There a 3 different spear-point grinds (plain, swedged and fullered). I believe DLT still has a stone-washed fullered exclusive Spear, that's simply an awesome knife. Get it before they run out, I suggest.

Roland.
