If your budget is $100 max but you want the best for the least amount of $$$, which of the following knives with a blade length of 3in or less would you recommend? If it's not on this list make a suggestion.
Kershaw Leek, $32.99
Spyderco Delica, $67.95
Spyderco Delica 4, $96.95
Spyderco Byrd Medowlark, $28.95
Spyderco Dragonfly 2, $54.50
Spyderco Byrd Robin 2, $20.50
Benchmade Mini Grip., $89.50
Remember, best bang for the buck in this case isn't necessarily the most expensive, the less the better.

Spyderco Sage 1, three inch max blade-length. I've had many of the Sage series...all three-inch blades.
You can find it for about 95 new if you look around.
Here are specs from Spyderco.

That's one of my favorite ecd's, but it's popularity in today's inflated knife prices makes it hard pressed to get one before Xmas for under $100. I'd feel better around $90 or less.

Rat 2 is only 3". Leek might be a bit, uh, dainty for a youngins first blade with the needle tip. What age?

With names like Spyderco and Benchmade, you aren't likely to find huge bang-for-the-buck ratios. I don't have experience with all of those new Spyderco models, but I can say that $89 for a Mini-Grip is grossly overpriced (I paid $65 for a full-size a few years back).

For a superior bang/buck ratio I'd look at some of the lockbacks and one-hand knives at AG Russell. Featherlite starts at $35, 3" titanium lockback for $42, Simple 3" lockbacks for $20...

Kershaw, the Scallion perhaps? Good size for inconspicuous pocket carry, and kids would get a kick out the action.

What age?
Most important question!
Second-most important question, what's the knife to be used for? Hunting and fishing, everyday pocket carry, hiking, camping, whittling... ?

Age 13 and 10, two girls.
I already bought the 13 year old a kirshaw Chive, but after actually seeing and holding it, it's smaller than I imagined.

I carry a spyderco native 5 light weight and love it. Not sure what the exact specs are as far as blade length go but there is a choil on it so actual cutting edge isnt to long. Also $97 for a delica 4 seems pricy...dont they usually run $55-65 they would be an excellent choice as well.

Hands down - Dragonfly for the 10yo, Delica for the 13yo.

Delicas come in colors.

Check out BF sponsoring dealers like KnifeWorks or National Knives (the full list is sticked at the top of the Knife Exchange), they've got better prices than those in the OP.

Oh man, you really changed things here. I made certain assumptions... :)
Travis had some good choices.

Griptilians are a bit overpriced, but you do get a good functioning knife and a stellar warranty!
+1 for the Ontario Rat 2, and the Dragonfly.

Those are about the exact same ages as my nieces when I bought them blades recently. If those girls are anything like my nieces, they love horses! So I bought the older niece a small Queen Lite Hunter because I thought it looked like a 'cowgirl' knife, a good safe fixed blade to cut bailing twine in the stables. The second niece specifically asked for a "whittling" knife, and I chose a Boker Whittler in carbon steel and Appaloosa bone.

Perhaps that's no help at all, but it's all I've got. :(

Happy shopping!

I'll check it out. Been looking at BladeHQ for prices.

The Delica feels great. It opens smoothly and it weights nothing. For a little less you can have a Tenacious, heavier and chunkier, but it feels really solid.
