so far ive got 2, may have more before the days up:D

the day before yesterday my buddy gave me a GEW88 mauser made in germany for turkey in the late 1800s and rebarreled in 35 for 8mm mauser. and yesterday my father gave me a mauser p08. guns are the perfect gift, ive given away so many and this is the first year ive got any milsurp from any of my friends.

i gave a orgties .22 to the same guy who gave me the mauser, one old german for another.

is that Mauser made by Luger? it reminds me of my Ruger 22 auto style. cool looking pistol, always wanted one but the price has really went up on them. Nice gifts, looks like your good gift fiving karma has came back to you. Merry Christmas to you. PW

the luger was made by mauser:o

edit..... to clairfiy that, theres 2 "mausers" there. the pistol is a p08 s/42 meaning it was made by Mauser Werke AG, Oberndorf, in 1939. the rifle is a GEW88 turkish "mauser" also known as a commission 88, they were given to the turks by the germans for use in ww1 even though they were outdated. most, including mine was rebuilt in the 30s for 8mm mauser.

if you want one keep your eyes out for a pawn shop deal. theres also alot of cai import missmatched shooters out there that can be had for low as 300-500 bucks. this might interest you to.

The Ruger .22 was designed in the 1950's, while the Luger was designed decades earlier. However, you're correct that the basic shape of the Luger and Ruger are very similar.

the neat thing is that ive become a big full metal alchemist fan sence ive was fired, what other cartoons are good to drink to at 1 in the morning? i also got the movie, in the movie ed's weapon of choice is a luger although he only used it once. all the nazis used broom handle mausers and the good guys used lugers.

somebody on another forum noted that the grips are east german replacement grips. that gun went through ww2 (has some pitting under the blue) who knows the story there, it could have layed in a battle field for a while. i dont see why any german would have let his pistol rust let alown why would it rust on just one side? eather way, it was rebuilt at some point right after the war and was used as a east german police pistol.

Most likely the german who dropped the pistol did not have much choice at the time, he either had surrendered, been shot, had it blown out of his hands, or had thrown it away in an attempt to escape capture. Also many guns that rust only on one side are used by the owners to "finish things". the pistol then drops into the mess.

You mean you gave away an Orgies .22 pistol and didn't call me? :-) I've looked at a lot of guns over the past 50 years, but I've seen very few Ortgies in any caliber. I finally found one I could afford in .32 ACP (7.65 Browning, in European terms) within this past year. It's a neat little weapon from the golden era of pocket pistols, and I'm really pleased to have it. I've got a "thing" for .32 pistols and revolvers. The Ortgies is the only gun of any kind that I'm aware of that uses no screws anywhere in its design, not even to hold the grip panels on. These are very well made little German shooters, even if most people have never heard of them.
