OK, the little munchkin (11yr old) asked good ol dad what I wanted for Christmas...Last year it was a nice Timex dress watch,,the year before that it was a hockey jersey so this year I said..."How about a knife" ,as the wife rolls her eyes at me.lol...She gets to spend $40-50 on each of us and I really need a good fixed blade for camping/hiking/survivial... I was thinking BG survivial knife but would like to get the most durable fixed blade for 50 beans..I can add the fire-striker/whistle/sharpening stone later..

So,,,,,The best quality most durable fixed blade for 40-50 beans ? Thanks

A couple of questions.

Do you have a blade length in mind? Legal or personal reasons.

Do you want stainless or carbon steel?

For $40-$50, the Buck Nighthawk is perfect. I've owned one for around 12 years and it's great. Used it for everything from fishing line to cutting open steel cans. Buck does a good job with the 420HC, too. It is a big knife with a 1/4" thick and 6.5" long blade, though.

Dayhiker..

I have no bladelength in mind but I think it should be stainless just so I don't have to worry about rust...This knife will live in a daypack and will be left locked up in our pop-up camper year round...I like to keep our trailer ready to go as much as possible...That Buck knighthawk looks good also...

I would get a mora 2000, force, or triflex. Or if you don't mind d2 queen makes some nice fixed blades for around 50.

BK11 or EsKabar w/ a firesteel can be had for less than $50. Add some paracord and you're good to go.

Sog field pup or sog seal pup can be had for under $50 they should be a good size for small hands and be pretty rust resistant.
