New Years holiday camp excursion, which was to try out my new toys.

ESEE Junglas - gift from wife
Kabar Famine Tanto - gift from wife
Case Stockman - gift from son
Custom Damascus knife - gift from mother
Woodmans Pal and BK10, which both were early gifts to myself
Gerber Suspension Multitool - from the in-laws
TOPS Hellion Elite - gift from my wife
A small skinner made by our very own BattleCreekKnives
oh yeah and a medium sized cheap M-Tech that my mother said I could use to dig junk up or pry with so I didn't ruin my good knives. I know, best mother in the world.

Well any way, I decided to get more stitches in the tip of my left index finger. I tried to cut it off. My wife got a new Boker for Xmas and it was stuck in the leather sheath. While pulling it out, my hand slipped and the knife sliced right through my leather glove and tried to remove the tip of my finger. This is the same finger that received 9 stitches this past summer. Along with the fact that I split my knuckle in two when I was 16yrs, I have now decided to claim this as my Lucky finger. The bright side is that the doc stitching me up always compliments me on my sharpening skills because the cut is always so clean and all the way to the bone. They say it makes me easier to stitch up. Now if I can only get the feeling back in the tip of my Lucky finger. Typing would be so much easier. Pics of the knifes will come later. I am going hiking tomorrow and will hopefully take some pics. Until then, here is Lucky....

On the upside the scar from this one probably will cover the scar from the last one.

congrats, you got an "oh dear" from the Cap'n. I remember the thread of you cutting yourself pretty badly with a bk9, Cap'n. I believe that was in my lurking days.
That is one lucky appendage. If I were you I'd start wearing steelplate gloves.

In unrelated news, have you ever looked into something like this? I mean, you were already wearing a glove, but maybe wearing something like this under the glove when you're going to be handling knives a ton?

My wife has an aunt that does wood carving, and after one nice cut where she almost lost her thumb, she now wears one of these every time she carves.

Hope it heals up fast man, I hate getting cut (kind of a panzy, I hate blood).

downside??? well there's always a downside to just about everything, the upside however is you're building excellent callus' to play guitar:D

the ultimate upside is you didn't damage tendons/nerves.... those suck bigtime........ask me how I know :)

heal well

Ah, good old nerve damage... I still don't have all the feeling back in my trigger finger (probably never will) ever since I decided to tattoo myself a little "knife safety reminder". The knife was razor sharp so I didn't even feel it happen, but man did that hurt like a banshee for the next month. For a while I couldn't even straighten my finger without electric pain shooting down my hand.

Heal up quick and be safe man.

Not anymore, I've got full mobility back in the finger. If I choke back on a Becker and try a snap cut I'll get a pretty good zing where the scar tissue hits the nerve though.

Haha, thanks for the laugh. I'm a southpaw and my right index finger has had stitches on 3 different occasions and should have on another, the TP and sports tape were troopers. First time I walked past a glass display case that was chipped in a Hallmark store. I think I was 14 and learned what conchoidal fracture was the hard way... from there it all went downhill. Nice haul.

Hex armor makes some amazing cut resistant gloves for pretty much any application.
I am buying a pair of Blademaster Ultimate for outdoor type stuff and a pair of NXT 10-302 for when I am working with or on knives and need real good manual dexterity.
Being careful is important but sometimes PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) makes the difference between no injury and a bad one, even when your careful.

Must be a left thing going around, cut mine to the bone twice. Once on accident and once from plain stupidity. Still no real feeling in it after years, next time I'll let the doc stitch it I guess. Hope that heals up quick, that hurts right on the meat there.
