Hi all:)

I have been Searching the web for khukuri designs and found one i think looks awesome. Its a extrema ratio style from khhi "xtrema milita":) and i was wondering if someone know if HI wuld be able make this design? Or has someone seen something simular from HI?

Regards

Interesting shape but I don't see it's advantage yet. Worse at chopping, not better for stabbing.
Maybe good for digging foxholes?

I guess the advantages is that one can use the outer part with a thicker edge for chopping and the inner part with a finer edge for carving and finer work. And it looks awesome and i think it would be cool with some more modern khuk designs:D

Ripoff of the Extrema Ratio original.

Tom Brown Tracker, anyone?

The design is very utilitarian which I like. Could never really warm up to Katanas with butterflies and flowers on their guards. I appreciate effort and craftsmanship but wouldn't carry something too "beautiful". For me beauty lies in purposeful design. Therefore this extreme blade looked good to me at first.

What concerns me here is that the two sections meet where on a traditional Kukri the sweet spot would be.
Therefore chopping with this blade would mean using a point more towards the tip.
Now is this still a Kukri or more a knife with an axe on top?

Doesn't need to be bad. It's just different and I would have to test if it works for me.

KHHI has a habit of copying others designs, even ours. Some of their affiliates even use our ad copy verbatim.
We do not wish to copy others designs and prefer to market our own or our forumites designs.
A copy of the extrema ratio style would not be something we would wish to make, I'm sorry.

Ok, i understand. But could i design something in the same ally and order it as a custom?

It would still be a copy if the blade design elements were used. The shops are not taking special orders at this time.
You would be better off posting a thread in the Wanted: Knifemaker / Craftsman / Related Services section of the exchange to see if a craftsman would make one for you.

You got me interested. I'll design a blade myself which chops like a Kukri and stabs like a Gladius.
I've seen Kukris with pointed tips (some Bowie Kukri combo) but the tips point straight forward. I like the tip more pointed too but would angle it like a traditional Kukri. Stabbing with the tip at an angle to the handle feels surprisingly more ergonomic than with the tip in straight line (or parallel to the handle).
Then there are a few more details like the tang coming out of the handle which will allow for striking with that end. But then also not so pointed that I poke my own leg if I miss a swing with the blade etc.
Anyways will take me a few months of drawings and prototypes. By then we will see if HI can make something like this as custom order. Any experience on how much such a highly customized version could cost?

Nice. Thank you for the pointer. It's just that the tip points forward too much. I want it to point the same direction a normal Kukri tip does. Feels much better in my wrist to stabb that way.
So normal angled Kukri with a more pointed tip would be best for me. Some blades are overall thinner but then the balance feels off to me.
I'll be working on it and see if its possible to develop something which thins at the tip keeps the Kukri's tips angle and still maintain a forward balance good for chopping.

Do you mean that if i use enny elements from the xtrema, HI won't make me a custom?

Of course there needs to be a blade and a handle etc. Where is a border between a copy and a new custom shape?
I think its a case of "I know it when I see it."

What I am saying is we choose not to copy others designs. We do not want to get a reputation of copying others work.
We are a Khukuri making business and choose to focus on producing those as our primary stock.
As the ER is still in production by it's parent company we will not make a copy of it.
