I'm really thinking of getting a customised dozier. thing is, I'm not too sure whether to substitute the standard black micarta bob provides with G10 or leave it be.

I'm concerned about the (i) grippiness of micarta vs that of G10, especially when wet; (ii) whether substituting it with G10 would rob me of the chance to handle Bob's ergonomical handles (I understand micarta is thicker and oval); (iii) whether micarta looks better.

The knife is meant to be tactical - utility in nature. I do not have large hands (men's size "M" for mountain biking gloves).

Could you guys comment, pls?

Thanks.

I've seen knives with both G10 and Micarta that I like, and my first order of micarta should be in this week so I can start playing with it. Guess technicalloy it's next week, since it's saturday now, but whatever.

But what I would suggest, is while you should definitely get opinions here as there are mnay years of experience between users here, is to actually get a hold of Dozier and ask him his advice(assuming he's doing the work), or whoever you're having change the handle if you're having someone else do it. In my time posting on the Shop talk forum, I've leanrned that custom knifemakers as a group tend to be extremely helpful, and willing to answer questions and help steer you the right way. Seems to me before you do anything you should use it the way it comes?

Taking off the the handles is a pain in the butt, if your still worried about it being slippery after having it a while why not cut some groves in the micarta handles, you could still take them off if that doesn't work out and put on whatever you like.

bttt.

any Dozier owner views out there, pls? I know the pictures on Bob's site all show micarta scales. Thing is I've never handled micarta - it looks nice, but is it slippery. The only G10 I've handled is on the Emerson CQC7wave.

I understand that the ergonomics of the dozier knives are amazing. That's why I want to know if switching it to G10 instead of micarta will change the ergonomics. I'm told that G10 scales are slimmer.

Thanks.

spyken, I can't speak for Dozier, but I have micarta scales on Spyderco knives and I don't find it slippery at all. So ... I just took my latest to the sink, poured water and then liquid soap all over it, and -- it was slippery ...

Actually, it had to be somewhat slippery, but holding it with my fingertips, pushing my thumb hard along the scale, I found good resistance. My thumb didn't slide right off, it barely moved forward.

One thing you may have to do with new micarta is to rub it down by hand to get the powdery feel off, takes a few moments. I think it's a great handle material myself.
