My neighbour just gave me this forge:D Patented in 1900 with an early woven cotton drive belt no less. Has a tiny blower and what looks like a two handle crank. I'm soaking it with oil to try to get the nuts and bolts apart on the blower so I can clean out all the leaves and crap. What fun.:D

It's running quite smoothly after a soaking with oil. I can't get into the blower to clean it out cause the entire blower system is also bolted to the coal basin. I think I can stick my torch into the fan mecanism and burn the leaves out. Then I'm gonna burn some charcoal in it to see that the fan paddles are not rotted away, I think they're good though. I've been saving old leaf springs and have 2 30 inch and a 36 inch saw mill blades that are likely s6 or s7 tool steel that will become big knives and lots of hawks. Can't wait to fire it up.

Neat old piece of machinery...Hope it works for you...Thanks for the pic's

Thanks for the links Randy, the blower on the Buffalo is pretty much the same as this one. I can't see into the blower but it seems to be pushing lots of air so I think the paddles are still there. I put a new leather belt on it and it runs pretty smoothly. I'd like it to freewheel a bit longer so will dick around with it some more today. Luckily there's an old chap near me with a big garage full of blacksmithing coal which is getting hard to find.

Thanks again

Robin
