Hi,
I have a Yachtsman the the main spring for the blade broke. I sent it to Buck and they said; "discontinued model, no parts available for repair" and replaced it with a 112. Know anyone that could repair my yachtsman?

Tom, look for Glennbad in the traditional pocket knife forum. If he cannot, he may be able to recommend someone to you. Good Luck OH
Ps that model was made by Camillus for Buck, so if you can find a repairman with a stock of Camillus parts that would work too.

Or a Camillus parts knife.
I don't know if the backspring from a Rough Rider or Marbles Marlin Spike will fit.
On the other hand, if you need a Marlin Spike knife that isn't afraid of a bit of work, I can tell you from personal experience the Rough Rider Marlin Spike is an excellent choice when working with halyards, lines, stays, (not wire rope stays though) splicing triple strand, untying nasty, old, nasty (probably not tied properly to begin with) knots ... and doing other fiber rope work.

Hey bud, Those Rough Riders Spike and Marbles Spike are 9.99 and 7.99. I could not recommend no matter how well they may work. The price is higher than the sale price of the product.

When I see those brands in the traditional forum it makes me feel ill. I dont know whats traditional from there.

In today’s world, what you buy sends a big message. Each purchase of a Chinese good supports their manufactures while hindering our own.

All of China’s manufacturing growth, however, has proved to be too rapid for its own good. China’s approach to treating factory workers today resembles the same inhumane conditions many working Americans faced during the Industrial Revolution.

Sadly, some factories in China continue to mistreat their workers to maintain high production numbers. When we buy a Chinese product, we're telling the big corporations in China to keep it up. To them, high profits are a vote of approval and they give Chinese corporations no reason to consider what they’re doing may be wrong. It justifies their actions. If we all start to switch to products made in the U.S., we will undoubtedly raise eyebrows among China’s elite.

I agree with Makael, buying ultra cheap Chinese made knives is supporting chinas abuse on their own people while hurting our own manufacturing jobs here in the USA. I don’t even buy the Chinese Bucks no matter how well they are made with only one exception by my mistake when I entered a sweepstakes. I was very troubled when I saw china on the blade tang along with Buck.

I have purchased 1 Chinese Buck in my life. I wanted the carabiner clip.....
The first day I used it, I knew before lunch I would never buy another.

If it were my first Buck, It would probably be my last.
I'm sure many first time Buck buyers purchase their knife based upon price, end up with a Chinese Buck, and are left with a questionable impression of the brand.
There may be some Chinese Bucks that are of good quality.... but my money will never find out.

I dont hate the Chinese knives like others do, but in Buck knives the American made are so affordable, I see no reason to not grab the American made.

this particular knife though, not sure who makes one in America anymore. sure someone does just not Buck or Camillus as its long gone except the name.

as for repair of it..finding a cutler isn't easy but they are out there. maybe in the knifemakers forum one of them can help?

Agreed with JB.
I should add that I am addicted to the quality of USA made Buck knives.
I feel that you cannot get a better quality knife for the money.
And Buck takes care of it's customers in a first class way.

I wish they would make them all here........ I really want a Selkirk.

Yes,

Suicide rates so high due to working conditions that they have to install nets on the outside of the buildings....... no reason to support that.

To the OP,
You can still find the Buck Yachtsman models in various places. There were four or five common versions. Look on the bay and other used knife sites. Find a cheap one (BUCK or Camillus) with a good spring, use it as a organ donor after finding a true knife craftsman (like Triple R or others) and have them transplant the spring. If it doesn't mean that much trouble and expense to you, then do a search for an American made yachtsman knife, they are not hard to find.

RR and Marbles are both owned by SMKW, an American company.

I'm sorry I offended you by mentioning them, and by posting photos of my Buck 371 and 389. :(

You didn't offend me whatsoever.

Since mentioning or showing the offshore Buck's is taboo, based on some of the posts above, and I've posted photos of all the 110's I have with me, I'll refrain from posting in the Buck area from now on.

That statement indicates I offended/insulted you in/with what I said in post number 3.
Again, my apologies.

I'm out.

Your inbox is full so email sent with explanation so nobody gets offended.

It’s too bad Buck couldn’t have saved Camillus from imploding.

Buck gave them a lot of business back in the day.

Two great American companies one thriving, the other one essentially gone.

Imagine if Buck had bought the Camillus name, and kept producing all those great patterns.

Good luck with the knife repair OP
