Well it's Wednesday and already had a couple of great trips this week. Monday three of us set out in the swamp for a three hour trip down a creek, into the river system and back. Round trip about 7 miles.
Leaving out

The creek, saw several alligators, thats one on top of the water on the right causing the ripples.

Out of the creek and into the lakes

Osprey chicks are hatching, saw several nests full.

Paddle 5

Yesterday four of us hit St Joe State Park and paddled the peninsula. Bay on one side, wilderness preserve in the middle, and Gulf of Mexico on the other.

Leaving out from the launch.

Perfect weather, hardly any wind, and crystal clear water in the bay. Stingrays everywhere. Saw mullet, ladyfish, trout, and a couple of sharks.

Beaching at one of the trailheads.

The wilderness area view from a dune. Primitive camping sites and hiking trails all the way out to the point.

Short walk from one side to the other.

The gulf side.

Back on the bay to paddle back. Took our time and fished a little on the way back.

Kept a couple of speckled trout for the grill.

Uh... aligators... ok. That's like a lizzard on steroids with quite a few more teeth. I wouldn't feel comfortable at all paddling in aligátor infested waters! I have no experience with them, nor do I wish to have it. I think I will stick to the high mountains where the most dangerous critter is... me.

Great trip anyway. And beautiful pictures.

If you don't feed them, harass them or their young, they pretty much stay clear of you. People feeding them is the biggest problem, and areas like this are safer than a canal or pond in a populated area for that reason. I've hunted them for years, and the bigger ones are more wary than young ones. That being said, I wouldn't advise swimming after dark. ;)

An adventure just checking out the pictures! Most memorable post ... and thanks.

Glad y'all enjoyed the pictures. I wish I had the skill to really capture these areas, these pictures just don't do either place justice.

Way better than my Wednesday! Glad you got out man, looks like a great area.

You may not be able to snap the disappearing ghost crabs or feed the fireants :) with a camera ... but you captured the area beautifully.

Wow, that looked like a great time. The pics of the white sand is so cool. some of the pics look like a jungle type of area in the back ground. All in all very cool pics and thanks.

Bryan, in the first set of pics it is mostly cypress and tupelo swamp. It's a really prehistoric feeling place. Heading back to the Bay in the morning for a dedicated trout fishing trip with a few people, then meeting my uncle and dad for some bream and shellcracker fishing a little north of where we paddled Monday. Gonna be a busy weekend.

Thanks for sharing the great photos. Nice yaks & trailer. I have the Wilderness Systems Ride 135, but sadly I haven't been able to get out lately.

Sweet. My buddy has one, very stable and great to fish out of. All these are Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120s.

Great adventure-wish I could head that way for vacation this year but a family reunion to the North cannot be avoided.
I've canoed the Okefenokee and as you mentioned the alligators aren't a problem.
