Yangdu called and asked me to post that she is offline...computer problems. She said that she took it to a National chain repair shop and it crashed even harder.

She says that it may be a day or two before she's back, so get out chop some wood.

Damned computers; can't live with them, can't throw them off a high building and watch them smash into a thousand pieces on the concrete far below.

Hey, wait a minute...! ;)

One recalls the "throwing TV's out the window" scene. "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more."

Yangdu wants you all to know that if the Hard Drive is not repaired, the replacement will take more time and this could affect when she returns.

She wants everyone to know she's not ignoring us, and she'll return to business as soon as she can. (Bless her heart)

She's pissed. (my add) This was supposed to be done and fixed last night but it crapped out instead.

Bummer...Tell her to take a day and watch the soaps and veg at the house or something

That is what I would do ;)

You know what I think of when someone brings up computer problems and khukuris in the same thread...

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!!!!

A few months ago I had to overhaul our home PC. My uncle, a very smart, tech-kinda guy, took care of some viruses the year before, but that only made things worse eventually.

Then we take it to a local (read: Hick) repair shop. They do a wipe, or something. On two different occasions. Still no workie.

"Hey, we payed you $150 to fix this thing."

"Uhh, maybe, try, disk-defragmenter."

Pros. Lemme tell ya.

So I get with HP support via e-mail, and leave the 'repair profeshunuls' to their hog farming (an otherwise respectable occupation).

Try a few things with HP's guidance, eventually resulting in a non-destructive recovery.

Ahhh. Everything's cool. Peachy. Swell. Peachy. ("You said that twice."--"I know...")

Sorry. Computers and their problems evoke in me a severe case of 'I heard that!' And for any 2003-era HP owners, watch out for Zero-Knowledge Freedom Firewall. Some "complementary" software that prevents the Microsoft firewall from functioning. At least, it did ours, and I've heard of it causing other folks some problems.

Anyway, Take care.

Yangdu is still having a Roman Circus about computers. The hard drive was supposed to be fixed, it isn't, and a new computer is supposed to have relevant files from the old and be up and running; it isn't.

when it rains, it pours.

Does anyone but me remember the SciFi story about some folks building a Super Dooper Pooper Scooper Computer and then asking it the age old question, "Is there a God?"
And after a few moments of waiting anxiously the computer replied, "There Is Now!"

That's what convinced me to go Macintosh. The same company makes the device and the operating system. I got sick to death of tech support telling me, "Oh, that's a hardware problem. Call Dell." Or conversely, "Oh, thats a Windows problem, call Microsoft." Now I call Apple and they help me fix it. Never look back.
