I got a treat yesterday and wanted to share it with you. My wife was waiting by the door with the "You got ANOTHER package from Himalayan Imports!" look on her face when I walked in last night after a lousy day.

I opened it up and pulled out the most beautiful little knife I have seen in a long while. The little Yangdu Special Katunje is just flawless. The handle is shorter that the previous katunjes done by Kumar, but not so short as to be unusable. I was very lucky to get the one with dark neem handle, and it is beautiful. The grain figure in this handle will knock your socks off. So far my luck with Neem wood has been 2 fantastic (Movie model and this one), one good, and one so-so, which can probably be said of any wood.

The previous katunje's had a very very slight habaki bolster, and a slightly longer handle. This one by Sher has a standard bolster and shorter handle. Cho's are the same on both. My daughter liked the other Kumar katunje, but absolutely loves this one, as it is just the right size for her.

Whoever got the chandan and other woods are probably just as pleased I'm sure. The scabbard fit is perfect, as are the karda and chakmak. I hope we see a few more of these. I think this one needs a chandan partner. And a stag. And that rhododendron wood is nice. Can't forget hill walnut...

I'm gonna put the Uncle Bill knife on my writing desk next to the Yangdu....

I'll be working on the book and look up, hearing a strange phrase from the children's cartoon's below me in the recessed livingroom, I can't resist pulling the Yangdu Special out of the sheath and shouting something like, "Maisy, Maisy, Maisy Maisy Mouse."

I hope you don't think it rude if I say that I prefer picturing you saying "By God...Life is cheap on the Brazos"

:p :D

You'd have to understand the insane munk household to know why some tunes work at certain moments...we're a silly bunch here.

I do understand, though. By God. And there is something wonderous in a flash of steel, serious steel, only to hear: "Maisey, Maaiiisey, Maisey Maisey Mouse."
