It was meant to be.

No posts here yet? Ridiculous. Someone look at the handle of Sher's M43- the upswept, palm side handle portion. And the leaf shaped blade. 29 oz's is enough.

Congratulations, Ad, I just saw your post- way to go.

E-mail sent on sirupati. If it goes through, this will complete the set 15, 20, 25.

(well, I guess I could get the 12, 18, and 30 too!)

Bruise, are you teasing me? They made one like that not long ago and I commented on it.

Are you really looking for a lighter M43?

munk

I really like that extra long handle on the 16.5" chiruwa AK. Makes for a nice handling khuk. Uncle says the handle is 90% but it looks very nice to me and the price is certainly right!

But do I "need" it? Hmmmm...

I noticed the long handle also. That's a light blade, but with that handle, you could get some mechanical advantage to the swing.

I can't believe no one has snapped up the chainpuri, or that Chiruwa AK. Two very nice blades. And the chainpuri is a non-stock item, sure to be rare. Just the thing for light branches, brush, or a superb display piece. Just about got myself talked into it! Come on people, save me from myself!

Mindwip, the Chainpuri is somewhat of a special item, not seen too often. If you really like it, I would strongly urge you to snap this one up, as they are fairly few and far between, and this is an excellent price.. If you miss it, a standard sirupati or even a fullered chitlangi give a somewhat similar feel.

Not all the models Uncle Bill lists are shown on the website; mostly because keeping the website updated is almost a full time job, and also because many models are added (and sometimes dropped) periodically depending upon the pool of kami's available and what they are making. For instance, prior to July of this year you would never have seen a Jange (Junge), and two-three years ago the Balance model and the Foxes Folly and others were regularly seen but are really no longer available. Uncle Bill has tried to list those on the HI site under "past blade runs", but not all are listed, and some that are are back in a limited fashion.

The Chainpuri would be an excellent first khuk, and would fill your medium to large size category pretty well. I think of it firstly as martial arts style blade, and it would not be my first choice for a daily chopper, but that's not to say it would not hold up well doing that. Once you hold one you will see what I mean, as it is light and kind of whippy and balances nicely. I would want an AK or WWII or BGRS for any heavy duty chopping.

In any case, welcome to the Cantina, and good hunting!

Regards,

Norm

mindwip,

i have a 22" chainpuri that is adequate for chopping 1.5" dia or less. anything larger than 1.5" dia gets chopped with my 18" ww2. while the chainpuri is certainly capable of handling the larger branches/saplings, the ww2 seems to require less effort. i believe the chainpuri to be more geared towards a weapon. i have found that the chainpuri's lighter weight-to-length ratio and agility make it ideal for trail clearing. you'll never want to pick up another machete again. by the way, the differences in the chainpuri and the chitlangi seem to be rather subtle -- the reviews that i read on the chitlangi seemed to apply to the chainpuri.

i don't regret ordering mine and i doubt that you'd regret ordering this one.
