6 year old 15 inch 1.5 lb Ang Khola recently returned for replacement. Chip can be stoned out in 15 minutes. I'd leave the patina as is. Old style tooled scabbard. $50.

Gelbu Special by Sher. 18 inches and 20oz. of very fine work. Perfect rig. $75 UBBB

A couple of Kumar kardas -- both by Amtrak, one wood and one horn as you can see. 10 inches and about 1/2 pound. We forget just how nice these little knives are. $40, 1/3 off regular, delivered to your door. UBBB

15" AK
6 years & returned for a chip.
[have habaki bolsters been made for 6 years?]

If it got much use then it's a proven blade.
Nice scabbard.
Big chakma.

Hope the person's happy with the exchange;
It's a rare two that feel exactly the same.

If I hadn't bought a 15" AK yesterday..........

It is possible for a small bit of stone to be lodged in wood or in the surface of the bark and this then impacts the edge. Or maybe a small chip just broke lose. I've stoned out several such small nothings.

It's kinda funny. That chip barely qualifies for notice. I wouldn't even stone it out. I'd let the blade wear down to the level and sharpen normally through use.

If I didn't owe my wife 600 bucks I'd get it now, and the Kesar no one wants. I don't even like 15" AK's. Too small. But you can't have too many useful blades. I need a back up for a back up and a back up- ala Rusty.

That AK was returned because of that tiny chip? I could fix that in less than five minutes with a file, a stone, and a little sandpaper.

that's not a chip! It is a "tactical serration." Sheez. ;)

(edit: paint that sumbich flat black, put on face camoflage and a boonie hat, and go skulk in the woods 'cuz "they are out to get you.")

It wasn't just the chip, Josh; it probably represented to the owner the futility of living and the darkness of the Soul. It was a three legged dog. It was a damaged hymen. It was an off key choir. You get the idea- it just wasn't fair.

It doesn't even look like it's been sharpened. I guess it's just easier to return it to Bill for a replacement when it starts needing some attention. I hope that wasn't returned by a forumite. An HI khukuri is a lifetime tool, not something you send back when it needs a good sharpening. Good grief.

Wow. I would not even think to ask for a exchange from a chip like that, even if it happen a week after I got it, much less 6 years after I bought it. Goes to show you at when Uncle Bill says he will take care of someone and back up a khurk he means it. To me that is a example of service that is above and beyond what one should expect.

Munk, Munk, Munk. Come back to us. DON'T GO INTO THE LIGHT!

You have shined a laser of understanding into the very soul of a man.

When the white bone handle of my new chilangi shattered like glass, and a few days later the too thin edge edge of my GRS rolled up like a rug, I lost faith in the kamis. I was depressed. Nothing was right with the world. Forget that I have 20 other khuks that were superb. Those two "weren't right", and neither was I. It took me a while before I got over it. Dumb huh. But when your belief systems are challenged......

Jeez, your insights scare me sometimes. ;)

Steve

NOW BACK TO THE KHUKURI SALE!

Steve, I hope you let Uncle Bill take care of those real failures. He wants to know how the knives really are. If they aren't doing well, he needs to know so the Kamis can know.

I think that it is great that Uncle Bill stood behind the "chipped" AK and I don't wish to bash the person that sent it back. Not knowing anything about the person or their situation I do not think that it is fair to judge them. That being said I just went and took a look at my two true hardcore users a 21" Chit by Amtrack and a 20" villager AK by Sher (I think). I have pounded them both in the time that I have had them. The AK has a chip about the size of the one shown above and the Chit has two somewhat smaller chips in the blade. I wouldn't even think about returning them. I can't say what exactly caused the chips in the edges but whatever did would have wreaked any of the other knives that I have to the point of them needing major, major grinding to repair. I know that because during the time that I managed to chip both of these blades my brother used my Becker BK9 Combat Bowie and it looked like it was a steak knife in a coulple of places, and the BK 9 is considered a soild well built knife of good steel. I did the major "tough" cutting of the things like roots and whatnot so I know that the chit and AK got the most and hardest use. So I don't consider the damage to the edges a failure Sorry to be so long I guess my point it is that errrrr...H.I. products are great...Uncle Bill is even better and I, for myself don't consider that real damage. :D

Nice karving on the Karda! Congratulations on a nice knife whoever picked it up!

Dan :)

About a month and a half ago- whenever it was I posted the thread about my WWII, with a link to all the brush I'd cut- I swished through a 1" branch, and my
16.5 hit an old marble countertop that was lying, overgrown with brush, next to the fence.

Yeah, it took a little chip out of the blade...but more out of the marble.

:)

I'd just like to say that i have a horn karda and even though i'm livin' uptown in the city, i don't know how i lived without one.

AK and GS still looking. The GS is a great rig -- can't understand why nobody has grabbed it but I never could predict the least thing about customer behavior. That I'm able to sell anything is a miracle.
