Hello all. I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks reading and studying these interesting blades.

Anyway, I was originally interested in a Chiruwa AK but now that I see the above specials, I was wondering how it would compare to either the 16.5" WWII or the 15" AK. This would be primarily be used while camping to chop wood, etc. I like the look of the WWII, but I just don't know if it can stand up to a whole lot of use/ hard work.

What do you guys think?

-->Greg

Kwk, the WWII, although not from my personal experience, is called the workhorse khukuri of the Gurkhas in WWII... I don't doubt that they will stand up to abuse just as well as any other HI khukuri... Really, the only one to be careful about hard use with is the kobra.

BTW: If you don't take the WWII, my friend's wanting one. ;)

They all will stand up to hard work.
15-18" khuk is good starting point
heavier/broader for chopping
lighter for easier carry on belt
All are highly recommended by various people.

The Chitlangi 18" (similar to Chainpuri 23" shown)
is my favorite now
a treasure of general utility & beauty.
A bit more chop-worthy than the Chainpuri.

Welcome Greg!

A Chiruwa AK was my first khuk. The full tang makes it a bit heavier in the handle and, therefore, it feels very well balanced and much lighter that it really is. It's probably the toughest khuk made too.

I've owned other models since, and found that the tradeoff for this was comfort.
That's not saying that the Chiruwa is uncomfortable, but the ergonomics of the handle aren't quite as good as khuks that aren't full tang. So, decide what's most important to you. For me, it's comfort.

Hope this helps!

Email sent on Chainpuri. You're lucky, Kwk... I was -this- close to ordering the WWII without seeing if you did.

took me 20 minutes to decide between the AK and the M43. Lucky I got in early.

tsf I'm glad you decided on the M43 because your reply beat mine, and I've been wanting a wood-handled Kumar AK for awhile. I've heard that Kumar makes a fabulous handle.

DRM,l I had just gotten a 12" AK and the 15" I think would be perfect, but the M43 has been calling me for awhile. I hope you like the AK.
Terry
