The Sunday following the convention Ray and Annie took us to this delightful and enchanting place called "Butterfly World" where there is an amazing collection of exotic butterfies and birds (kept in separate quarters and wisely so). The birds and butterflies are pretty tame as the pix above shows and it was a real joy to spend time there with them.

What has this to do with khukuris? You guessed it.

Now that's really cool!!!!
However I see 2 people with the right idea and wearing hats of some sort.
And when the birds are flying loose I would think that a hat or cap would be wise indeed.

Of course if there was any seagulls in the bunch one would need a full body suit for protection from the sky falling.

We have a rainforest exhibit at our Tulsa Zoo but there are no butterflies there.
They have several varities of large and small tropical fish including pirhanas and some beautiful catfish and the big nut eating fish from the Amazon.
The marmosets and another variety of monkey has free reign as well as some birds and a lone achuitchi(sp) a small mammal. They got 2 of them, both male and had to seperate them because of fighting.
There is also some other monkeys and some fruit bats that are kept behind glass.
The highpoint of the rainfoest experience is the 2 jaguars. One, a large male, is all black with black spots and he is huge!!! His spots are hard too see until he gets in the light just right. The other one is a female, standard yellow with black spots, and is surprisingly large as well. The jaguars are really big cats!!!
A really kewl thing they done was let the jaguars out into one area before the cement dried and they left their foot prints in the cement.
We have 2 adopted daughters that work at the zoo and they get us free membership every year for X-mas. I do a lot of walking there because it's a secure area and I can get a ride to the gate if I get too tired.
One year I was out there so much that people thought I worked there.

And I wouldn't mind being a docent there one of these years.

Many times when we go into the rainforest I set in a small hut they have on exhibit and hide while I play my Flute. The other guests think it's piped in except for the times I happen to get
caught.

The Bronx Zoo had a butterfly exhibit like that this summer, no birds though. I would have like birds better I think.

Actually, the place made me want to sit down and doze off. Butterflies everywhere and very accustomed to human visitors -- landing on your shoulder, head, arms. Controlled "rain" to simulate rain forest environment and classical music as background. It was a VERY peaceful place.

Thanks Ray and Annie for taking us.

In the hot summers here when everything is dry one of my favorite walking places is called Redbud Valley. The little moths and butterfies are abundant at one spot in the trail where there's a fairly steep tail going down the bluff into the coolness of the caves.
And I guess the moths and butterflies crave salt as anyone walking there gets a mass greeting by them. I love to see them light on my hands and fingers and unrolling their tongues to drink the sweat there.
It is a very peaceful place as well and one of the stops where I like to stop and play my Flute.
And except in the very driest and hottest summers there is a small spring flowing there running down over the rocks and the music from that and the Flute music reverbrateing from the caves always makes people stop and listen until I quit playing.

It seems they always leave refreshed and without frowns from the heat and exertion they've been expeienceing.
