Curious how people would rate the new 'Green Beret Knife' against the 'Busse Steel Heart'.

I do not own either, so I cannot comment personally.

Cordially,

JB

JackBoots, welcome to the forum.

I think that comparison will be interesting.

Also interesting is that you posted this on 3 different forums.

Do you plan to add a Busse (or some Busses) to your collection?

Welcome to the Busse forum!!

I can't comment on the comparison from experience--I don't own the Yarborough. However (from pics and reading), I would say that the Busse will be a better chopper, will be a lot tougher, and will be just plain more bomb-proof. It will also probably hold an edge longer (INFI will also make the edge a lot more durable). The Yarborough should stab more efficiently and probably be a little better for fine work. It will also probably resist corrosion a bit better.

I agree with Andrew, except for the point about corrosion. If the Busse is coated, the combination of INFI plus the coating will hold up very well....

Not to dog on CRKs, because I own several and plan on getting a GB, but Busses will take more punishment than just about anything else. I know you shouldn't do non-knife things with a knife, but sometimes you have to and that's when you need the extra strength and durability. For instance, a friend tried to pry an interior door with a quality knife and broke the tip off his tanto. Nothing broke on my Busse when I tried the same thing.

As Andrew points out, the GB should stab better, which I suppose could be important in a knife fight. However, I've seen a lot of knife fight losers and the majority get it with a kitchen knife or box cutter, so I really wouldn't worry about any quality knifes performance in this area.

I own both Busse Combat and CRK's. Both are excellent and will serve you well. The Yarborough looks to be well thought out, and Chris' knives are some of the sharpest I have ever had the pleasure to use. They will take an large amount of abuse and still perform; Chris will stand by his knives as well.

Jerry's knives are in a class all their own. You will be hard pressed to find another knife that will perform as well in the areas of edge retention, ductility, toughness and corrosion resistance as a Busse Combat knife. It's take a herculean amount of insane(as in idiotic, full out stupid jackass on acid with a knife stuff) effort to damage a Busse Combat knife to a point that requires replacement, trust me, I know.

After trying many other knives and makers, I have become convinced that Busse Combat Knives are the best choice for all around excellence, but then again I am an insane, idiotic, full out stupid jackass with a knife most times and my needs exceed those that would normally be required of a knife.

I own a CRK Green Beret and a "few" Busse knives. The GB is a good feeling knife, maybe a little on the light side. But when I pick up my SH-E or NO, I get a feeling that I`m holding a real knife, a feeling of total confidence, that I can do anything I want to, and my Busse will take it. ;)

Cliff Stamp weighed in on the subject a few months ago. I don't know how to link threads, but it can be found on the CRK forum in a thread titled "Green Beret Knife" started by a forumite named "Bionic Boner". I think that it is a pretty fair and accurate comparison of the two knives. Check it out, and post the link if you can.

Here is the thread.
While some of the performance characteristics of S30V commented on remain to be seen, as far as I'm concerned, Cliff's comments on blade geometry are dead on. That's inarguable, IMO. The rest of it sounds good (and I agree-in theory), but it will take actual use for me to form a real opinion.

If we do this passaround, and I get to try the CRK knife side by side with a Busse, I'll debate one vs. the other, but not until then.
I've used S30V, but not on knives of this type, not at that hardness, and not with CRK's HT (more to the story than just hardness-Jerry Hossom and Rob Simonich have commented on this, and I learned alot from it...well, I learned how much I didn't know, anyway:o).
It will be fun seeing what I can learn about the passaround knife-though real abuse is out, and I'll only have it a week.
Should I happen to win the passaround knife:cool:...that will be another story. High hopes and low expectations on that, but either way, this will be a lot of fun.

Man, I love this stuff.

I don't own a Green Beret, but I do own a Projectll, and several Busses. The Projectll is well made and extremely sharp. I've noticed posts, on different fourms, comparing different knives to comparative models of Busses. As stated in some posts here, some knives may be better "stabers" but in the end, the Busse wins out for durability and strengh. Being relatively new to collecting knives, it is my humble opinion that no knife can truly compare equally to a Busse. and you can't beat Jerry's warranty. OMG, I think that I have become an INFIdel.
