I picked a couple of knives up at the town yard sale, but this one is rather intriguing. The main blade has Kabar 1013 USA on it, and someone apparently engraved 1946 on one of the handle scales. I doubt that the knife is that old, but it's still interesting. Here are a few pics:

It needs a little cleaning up. The main blade doesn't have much snap when it closes, but both blades look like they are pretty full, which is rare to see on older knives I find around here. Anyways, how'd I do for my $10?

Interesting, it appears yours says 1014 on the tang. I wonder what the difference is from the one I bought.

I have a 1014 I bought back in the early 80's. The 14s are brass and wood and the 13s are either old and bone or later with Delrin scales. Nice, easy carry pocket knives.

Nice score! I had a yellow dog's head Kabar barlow that I gave to a coworker about 15 years ago and have always regretted it. They are darn hard to find these days.

I think you did well.

Those old KaBars are nice. That one appears to be Delrin, and seems in pretty good shape. I don't know what the date on that one would be, but I doubt it is as old as 1946. Delrin wasn't used as a handle material until the late 1960's, so the knife would have been made sometime since then.

Not a bad find!

I'd say ya done good.

Here's one in Delrin that I'd forgotten I had until reading your post.:o
