I was making the rounds yesterday and stumbled upon this... the seller was
selling it for a "friend" .. a retired Fireman. I tried to dicker...firm at asking
price. I gave $25.00. Not sure what current market value is ...but, seemed
in pretty good condition. I will do nothing to this ax...well, maybe lube. It
was purchased as a wall hanger. I have to be honest... I never come across
these in my frequent searches. Thus, $25 seemed reasonable (as Ebay prices
all over the map).

I assume this was from the Charleston plant prior to closure in the early 80's...
but please correct me if I'm wrong. The shaved bolt thru the ax head and handle
would seem to make haft exchanges problematic. My first one with such securing.
The ax handle has an imprint of "20A1W".

At 6 lbs. I cannot even imagine what it would be like to be geared up, full blaze,
swinging this for hours on end. Tip of the cap to the first responders.

I really like it. I think I would have regretted passing it by....

Great score for head and handle all the way home!

My thoughts always...if I can and don't but walk away regretting...who am I teaching a lesson to and what's the lesson?

It will do what you ask of it for sure.
Great American Fire Axe!

Thanks guys... I sure wish this one could talk ! Doesn't look as though the grinder
was unkind to either end. I can honestly tell you I have never caught one of
these "in the wild". ... the rarest of sightings only at "Antique" vendors... wanting
a vital organ as payment.

A nice thin handle with just the slightest lateral curve just at the lower swell. All
around a very nice tool. I will treat it with respect. Lucky find.

(I never knew they were 6 lb.'ers.....what a work out).

I agree with all... just a lucky yard sale find. I've never seen one before at
thousands of yard sales... probably never will again. Even the bride likes this
one ! :cool::thumbsup:
(can't explain why I even debated picking this up.... glad I didn't pass ! sheesh)...
no explanation.

Very fair, that's a nice example.

Team ax... added a photo of garage hang... ignore the big A hole in the wall...I
moved some stuff and uncovered the damage... TEENAGERS !!! ... on the repair list.
(might wait until he moves out). :D

... at least I get to look at this ax every time I get in and out of the car. I did
as planned ...minimal clean up.... wanted it left as used.

Wall art ! wall hole !

Stuff happens... we will laugh at this in a few years.... I think.
