Thanks to you guys I'm starting to fill a box with old blades from yard sales and thrift stores. Today attraction was the free box. The shorter one is marked j russel green river works. The longer one has an emblem of a knife and reads First Quality France Trade Mark. Any thoughts on age and nomeclature?

Thanks

The GR looks like what they now call a ripper. Mine is probably from the 1980s, and has a light etch rather than a stamp: RUSSELL/GREEN RIVER WORKS/MADE IN U.S.A.

I have the French stamp on a slicer. The name on the under-arm knife is A. Lacroix. (Trust me.)

I wonder how long French Chefs have worn the popover hat, and when they'd be using a French Chef to market a chef's knife in English, and I'm thinking Julia Child's heyday.
You might put "French" in your thread title and see if you can attract a French authority like Jolipapa.
