This morning when we drove to work we passed 2 power trucks who slowed down, unrolled the window and asked "we're looking for lines to fix"

I directed them to our hollow about the time my neighbor came out from his car behind them and said "I'll show you follow me"

As of last night despite power being out 3 days all the stuff in my freezer was frozen.

Been running the TV some and the computer off some batteries I have that I charge with the solar panel.

Washed a bunch of dishes last night by headlamp while listening to hand crank radio. In the "old days" we only had well water and when the power went out we had to walk 100 yards over to our other well that has the hand pump on it and then carry it back. Now with City water our water is not dependant on the electric pump.

The well is still hooked to the barn, but since we've had ample snow and rain the stock tanks I keep under the barn eaves have been full and the goats can drink out of them. Milking by headlight has been a bit of a challenge, but mainly because the goats are more hesitant to going into a darkened room and jumping up on the milking stand.

My grandma is in a care place and my parents are going to sell her house and about a month ago I got the old but great Alladin lamps she had on her table. I'm glad I got new wicks, oil and mantles right away cause they put out a LOT of light and have been mega handy.

We have gas space heaters and a gas stove so heat no problem but the only bad thing is these new stoves w/o a pilot light the oven won't come on w/o electric.

I keep wanting to put in a set of solar panels in my hayfield on a mount and convert all my lighting to DC. This may get me to do it!

A lot of my neighbors have generators but one thing I like about all the power being off is no appliances humming.

This is all melted now but highly unusual for any snow in Oct:

When the trucks came by I told them not to chip up these trees. They are all maples and I can cut them into 4' lengths and inoculate them and grow Shiitake on them since my other shiitake logs are about played out. When snow gives you lemons make shiitake.;)

Best of luck to ya... I sometimes forget how harsh it can be on the mainland... be safe and keep warm!

I do not miss Tennessee as much as I used to

Stay safe my Brother

Southern TN doesn't get this sort of thing often, but man I sure hope we get some this year. I often miss living off the grid...but probably wouldn't be quite as much fun with a small child...at first at least.

Hope you get the power soon HD, and you can keep that snow stuff in your area too lol. I do not want any lol.
the older I get the less I like that white wet stuff.
