Year long edc knife......

If your an avid knife lover such as myself, I'm sure you've spent more than your fair share of time in the forums. Throughout my searches, I've come across quite a few people who talk about carrying the same knife everyday for 1 year. I was curious if anyone has tried this and has anyone been successful. I personally always thought it was a cool idea. A year long to bond with a certain blade.....I could just never make it that long. I have to many sweet blades that beg to be carried.

The closet I ever came was 6 months. And the knife I was carrying was my first crk Sebenza 21. Wish I never would have sold that blade. Regret it everyday.

Let me know your experiences and stories!?

My first CRK is a Reg Large with a BG42 blade, she rode in my pocket for at least 6-7yrs after I bought her, never had reason to need another folder. Carried her in rear pocket, wore the same hole in 5 pairs of Levis (right rear pocket) over that decade. Still love how she feels in my hand, EDC on occasion, what a great blade. Was finally moved out of EDC carry by a sm.reg with DT raindrop.

Glad I never sold or traded her. Was offered a even trade for a Glock 17 once, that almost lost her, luckly I decided that I had enough; G17, 9mm pistols, glocks in general.

Still is a elderly Queen in my safe. one of the few queens that get used...

I have. It wasn't a CRK as I just got into collecting them a month or so ago, but I did EDC a Benchmade Rift for a number of years. Great knife that I still love but since I got into CRK's that has all changed.

I don't think I could do that. First, because I often pick a knife to carry depending on where I'm going and what I'm likely to be doing on that day. Second, and probably more influential, the other beauties in my knife-seraglio (pelican case) would get jealous.

Edit: To be fair, back in college, before I started collecting knives, I had a Gerber Paraframe that I carried for quite a while before I lost it and then a Gerber Trendy that I carried almost every day for a number of years. Also, since college, in addition to whatever knife I was carrying any given day, I had a Ladybug2 and then a Jester on my keychain. I just stopped this a few months ago when I decided to streamline my keychain. I haven't quite figured out how to work my Jester back into my new system.

I can definitely see how it was easy for you to carry that bg42 regular for so long. I've had two bg42s Sebenzas and they are by far my all time favorite edc blades. And yes, definitely never sell it!! I sold my first one and have regretted it for years.

Haha, yeah I had a benchmade presidio auto that I carried for a couple years before I got into CRKs as well.

Yeah I do the same thing! Does make it hard to stick to only one for year. Plus like you said it's just not fair to the other knives in my collection.

I guess if you used a particular knife as part of your job, it would be very easy to get used to carrying and depending on one particular knife for that long. Like a comfortable pair of jeans or shoes ... you just don't want to change to something else unless you have to! For me, carrying a knife is like accessorizing is to most women! What I carry depends on my mood, dress, and activity. I like smaller knives (which draws me to more to the Mnandi and small Sebenza) so size never interferes with the particular occasion. However, there was a period when I carried only one knife ... for about 12 years straight. Was during my military career. Was assigned to a support unit of the 3rd Infantry Division in the early 1980s when it was located in Wuerzburg, Germany. It was there I was given a MIL-K 818. Carried that little thing until I retired in 1995. I gifted this one to a BF friend for his son to have when he gets old enough. So, am pretty sure it will live on long after I am gone!

I have never even gotten close to carrying one for a year. However, I used to have so many blades that I would never know what one to carry. I have sold most of the knives I have and only have a handful left. After all the different knives i have had the one i like the best is the sebenza. Now I have been only really carrying that occasionally a delica4. The only way I would probly change that now is if I got a damascus sebenza or something of that sort. Although it was fun building up a collection, I enjoy just haveing a handful of the ones i use and like the best!

I've carried the same knife for just about 5 years now ! :D There have a been one or two days where there was a Regular Sebenza thrown into the old pocket but my 2009 Umnumzaan has been carried from the day I bought it. :)

I have not since moving up in quality. Back in the 80's and 90's I carried just one a small Gerber lockback with brass/ wood inlay scales. Since moving up the ladder I have barely owned the same knife for a year. I have been trying this and trying that, but I am starting to settle down now. I love the idea of carrying just one knife. My only problem is which one. They would all serve the purpose well.

I barely make it through one day with out switching things up.

Not unusual for me to carry 3 different ones during a day. One for the day, one for the night and a different one if I go out in public. I have some work to do before I am back down to 1 :)

I rotate pretty often between my old pivot umnumzaan and my bg42 regular Sebenza! Probably my two favorite blades! Umnumzaans are the sh**!

I went about 1 year with a Small Crosshairs Regular, 2 years with a Small Insingo, about 3 years with a Tanto Umnum, about 8 months with a Large Insingo, and I'm at right about a year with a plain Large 21. There's been lots of accumulated time in between with Mnandi's, some Large Regulars, standard Zaan's, and the 25 but none of them has reached that 1 year mark.

I did about 2 1/2 years with a BM 722, a year with a BM Presidio, and about 1 1/2-2 years with a Buck Crosslock.

There are lots of others that hit the year mark in the 30+ years that I've been carrying a knife but they're either to cheap to mention or lost to the folds of time thanks to the Guinness and Hennessey ;D

I have not and likely will not carry the same knife for a year for years to come. I carry small knives (typically William Henry) in the office and with dress clothes. Then I typically carry a CRK on weekends and with jeans.

I can see myself carrying my sebenza for a year and more unless I pickup a damascus or wood inlay or regular sebenza, then it would change!

I carried a large 21 for a year. I am currently in the 8th month of carrying a three sisters forge beast.

My small Insingo was my primary knife for just over a year. I carried it in my pocket with my keys and no clip since I worked in the office everyday. These days I fly every Monday so no knife but the rest of the week I'm in my home office so a did change to a large Insingo. Still drop but small in my pocket when I need a clip-less solution.
