My idea isn't anything definite, but the original issue 8OTY was 1990 only and that conflicts with a NY three line stamp. The 1990 stamp read 8OT on two lines, same as most Schrades after some time in the late 70's. I have an 8OT NY, it has match strike and pattern stamp on pile side, but I do believe there were Brown Delrin 8OT NY as a three line with 8OT on front, and no match strike.
So I would guess it is end of days, when there were alleged instructions to put together anything that matches, or lunch pail knife that did not get a shield. They also made the 881Y with both Walden and NY USA stamps, so that could explain the handle color and date of production. Several possibilities, but these kinds of combinations come up all the time, and sometimes it is suggested that quite a few these cobbled knife types may have been assembled after the shut down, as SMKY obtained truckloads of parts.
One I have is a Schrade 899 with a spey as the second blade instead of a sheepfoot. Looks very wierd to have a spey in the middle position.
