Its got to do with aviation rules, and to help with flight safety. It also helps the victim identify who stung, and whom to blame.
 
Not sure of what you mean, but there were two different versions of them. One I think was made for Smokey Mountain Knife Works, and the other was made as the Camillus production version.
 
I have one knife in my collection that is a 713y camillus made in the USA that has a line above and below the yellow jacket logo and a different looking hornet is this a SMKW's and is there a 713y camillus original? But the tang on this one says camillus new york made in USA is it worth collecting.
 
This is the Smokey Mountain version. It is really a better looking knife, and if I did not have other irons in the fire, I would start collecting them also.
