I have found the stropping on the back of a yellow legal pad to be a great way to get a keen edge. My question is:
Will loading up the legal backing with a green / white stropping compound improve my results?

Possibly, I use a 3x5 card with some green compound to strop on and finish on the opposite side that's bare. I use the same mousepad that I use to keep the stone in place and I flip it upside down so the sticky rubber part is facing up and put it on top of the stone itself and use that to secure the notecard in place. It's what works for me, I doubt it work for everyone.

For you it may work it may not with what your planing to do, only one way to find out if it improves your results :D. That's part of the fun of this hobby in my opinion experimenting to find out what works.

It definitely can improve results. In fact, I'd say cardboard stropping is better overall, if compound is used. White or black compounds are especially good on cardboard (from legal pads, Kleenex box, cracker boxes, etc), and can do a great job in cleaning up very stubborn burrs that plain cardboard won't remove. Try the cardboard + compound over a hard backing, like glass; that works even better.

The paper from the same pad will work even better, just wrap it around a bench stone. Used with compound will give fantastic results, and the plain paper will work great as a final polish in the same fashion.

Thanks Heavy. I've learned a thing or two watching your videos.
