Yellow Spacer 100 Year 119

When did Buck go from Red to Black on the spacers?
I only have two Buck fixed. An Alpha in walnut and a 103BR. Can't find the Alpha, so I guess I really only have one.
Anyway...just curious.

Goose, I've just remember it refered to as red...if you put it in good light/sunlight and look at it closely it does have a red cast to it. I'll try a search and see if I can find that thread...I think it was Joe H. who called it red. Preston

IIRC there were some red striped Bucks. Used to notice them when I was a Scout. I was never cool enough to have a fixed blade anything back then, but I remember seeing a few red stripes. But I may have been stoned from smoking rope (we did some really stupid things).

Thanks Preston, but did they switch from red to black? And, if so, when?

Please type your assignment in 50 words or less and double spaced. Due tomorrow.

Well, the problem, as I see it, is that the "red" Micarta is actually a dark maroon color, that looks pretty darn well black unless you're looking at it in bright light. Looking at my most recent Idaho-stamped 119, it is a dark maroon colored/"red" Micarta spacer:

Yep, looks maroon...Is that canvas Micarta??? You can see the little individual threads in it...

Trax, you mean you don't have a 100 series fixed blade:confused:  . Yes, you can see the individual threads.

I also looked at several of my older 100 series fixed blades and they have either faded or the micarta is of a different manufacturer, it's brownish.

Maroon would be my choice of a word to descibe the newer spacers, I used red because that's what I remembered Joe used. It seems somewhat translucent and in bright sunlight I could see how if it were not encased by the other parts of the handle...it might read red. We see colors by reflected light, so in low/dim light we could read it as black. Preston
