Hi All,

I sit here with misty eyes trying to find the correct words that will convey how I feel today. It's a story that brings warmth to my soul and gratitude that I can't express enough.

Those of you who have been coming to the Buck forum for a while know that I was the willing victim of Internet fraud trying to buy a set of custom 110's. I won an auction for 6 David Yellowhorse Damascus steel knives; this was a dream come true for me...I always wanted a Buck with Damascus steel and always wanted a custom 110 made by David Yellowhorse. However, my dream soon turned into a nightmare as the realization that I had been the victim of fraud. I have to tell you folks...this hit me and my wife very hard; it kind of shook our faith in mankind.

Let me introduce you to my friend and mate....John Warby, AKA maverick. I had run out of things to try for resolution of this auction gone bad. Mav had offered to help me in anyway he could....This guy has never met me and our only communication up to that time had been here on the forum. I called upon John and asked for help. You see John lives in the UK and that is where the Buck knife scammer lives. John, like an English Bulldog got on this guys trail and followed it to the other side of the UK and back...he put in countless hours of his time..traveled trying to locate this rouge, spent hours on the phone tracking the scoundrel. He never stopped.....John do you work for "Scotland Yard"???? Well John got the UK PD involved and they issued imminent arrest orders.....and arrested the guy who scammed me. Thank you John, I owe you mate and always will my friend.

Now there is another side to this tail....well this tail has also just begun. Maverick got in contact with our Joe Houser at Buck. Joe is truly a one in a million kind of guy....we don't know how lucky we are to have a guy like this helping us every day with our questions......and our favorite topic Buck knives. Joe took it upon himself to see my dream come true. Joe sent a NK DM 110 to David Yellowhorse and David turned it the most beautiful knife I've ever seen in my life. Thank you Joe, David and Buck. I don't know how I'll ever be able to repay all of you for this. I am truly blessed to receive a knife that was made from the heart and soul of all involved. This knife is a work of art and is now a family heirloom to be passed from generation to generation. This is a rich story that will be told in my house for as many years as I live.

Now fellah's I have never met any of these men and I have never even spoken to them on the phone. But, I hope one day to be able to look them in the eye while shaking their hands. Thank you Joe, David, and John for what you have done....You guys are truly hero's that all of us to aspire to be.

...John, this keyboard doesn't allow me to show how happy I am for you at this moment. I've never met nicer people than those I've met in this forum and I am honored to know you all...

Hey John

I am so pleased that you love the knife... its the least that you deserve buddy.

Joe and David Yellowhorse are the real hero's here. I am glad that my idea turned into the knife that you have now. But it would not have happened if it was for the generosity of Joe and David. I offered to help out with costs in the beginning and Joe would have none of it.

And in answer to one question: do I work for Scotland Yard?

Ummm no... Have I been wanted by them?? no comment ;)

But the scammer has been arrested and is pending a court appearance. What happens then is out of my control. I would have preffered the easy way like I have said before - go up there say "hello" have my Buck 110 say "hello" too and err ummm do whats needed :) and then get your original knives and or money back. But that was not to be. So involving the police was the only course of action. But *when* he goes to court - I will have the chance of meeting the b@st@rd and believe me... I will make the first part of his life seem like a prize.

Out of all this I got true friend(s)... sure we may never speak. But hey I am sure that don't matter too much.

But one day we may all meet up - can you say "Buck Convention"? he he and that would be a highlight for me.. but even if that don't happen then well I still got my mates and thats good enough for me..

But... although I have seen that knife before I gotta say that is the most beautiful thing I have *ever* seen.... and I hope ya dont mind but the original pic that Joe sent me is my desktop wallpaper... :)

Yours

Maverick
aka
John :)

You guys are the best... I'm safe in the knowledge that I'm surrounded by good folks over here...

John.. you're a great guy! Period..

John, I'm glad you posted the entire series of events, from the beginning, to keeps others from making a mistake. Your story reaffirms that the Buck Family, immediate and extended, are some of the best people on the planet.

I couldn't say it any better!
Thanks Mav, David and Joe for doing this for JB.
JB I hope you love and cherish that beauty!
Hopefully this reaffirms your faith in humanity!

JB I only hope someday you can meet Joe and David, they are great!

John W. you are a great friend and if you ever need help with a Buck knife don't be afraid to ask!
Thanks to all the Buck brothers! You are all great!!!!!!!!

I wish I didn't have to say how amazing this all seems.

This should be the norm -- the accepted behavior.

It's not.

Much respect for everyone involved in this extraordinary episode.

As incredible as all this may sound to "newcomers", I can honestly say that I am not one bit surprised at the generosity shown by Joe and Dave Y. I know them personally and I would trust my wife, my daughters, my dog and anything else I possess in their care. While I do not know Maverick, I sure would like to meet him. I have an idea. If Maverick is willing, I think we should all help subsidize a trip for him to the BCCI 20 year anniversary celebration in Post Falls next year. The event is set for July 23-25, 2008 at the Buck factory and we are anticipating a great turnout and a fantastic time. I have often said that I joined the BCC because of my interest in Buck knives but I had no idea that the friends I would make would become much dearer to me than my knives. John would be the perfect guy to oversee this payback. How about it guys? I am willing to send the first $100 toward the trip.

...Darn...Too bad I know I won't be able to make it to Post Falls Larry...but I'd sure be honored to help someone like "Mav" make it there...I didn't really "need" that folding 419 Kalinga either...LMBO...Put me in for $100...

( ...We'll need pics Mav...:p )

Well alright guys,

I'll put in $100 also. That's 400.00 in the kitty so far. July 23-25 in 08, that's Wed- Fri. Looks like a one week vacation to paradise ;). Joe, what's the weather like at that time of year? I can't wait to meet these three guys and everyone of the BCCI/Buck folks who will be there.

Great story ,a very special one of a kind 110 ,stainless rain drop Damascus,
customized by a fabulous artist David Yellowhorse.
I know you will cherish this knife .
Very fine group of guys to collabrate on this project.
One of the great reasons to be in the BCCI.
I will also contribute $100.00 .

$500.00 so far.

What a great story and a wonderful testiment to the character of the folks here in this forum and at Buck.

At the risk of being the group cheapie, I'd throw in $30 if Mav is accepting and able to make the voyage.

Knfeschmied you ar not allone: I'll put another 30 Dollar in the pot. Is there a PayPal address for the money transfer?

Mav, it's a pity, I spent some days in London five weeks ago. That would have been a pretty good chance to meet you. Next time? You dont't travel here and there to Germany? Or may be to Berlin?

Best regards,
Haebbie

Next time you are in London Haebbie - give me a shout and I will see if I can hook up with you.

As for the rest of this thread well.. to be honest I am speechless. Still dont know what to say... its a very nice gesture from all of you......
