So I definitely seem to have a problem. In general my interests run to historical items mostly of the particularly nasty double edged pointy variety. No, I can't edc them but I have more modern knives for that. I do, however pick up the odd other item here and there. In this case I just purchased a very nice example of a stilleto from Tod Cutler and thought I ought to divest myself of some of those other odd items I have accumulated, both to clear out some room and recoup some cash. I decided to put the Falkniven A1, S1 and GP that I purchased a while back up on the block. After all it turns out that I am not going to collect everything Falkniven makes like I once thought.

I got them out to take some decent pictures... and gosh that A1 sure is pretty... And that S1 sure fits my hand well. Its probably more handy than that A1 too. Also that GP... I mean look at that blade shape and isn't that liner lock on a traditional pocket knife cool? I quietly packaged them all back in their boxes and put them back in the safe... Sigh

Anyone else have this problem?

Yup ! :p

But it's not a problem, IMO . ;)

The only real problem for me is , if and when I'm forced to move to smaller, and/ or more harshly regulated quarters .

😭

At least you got them out WITH the intention to take pictures for the sale!! I can’t get past casually saying (maybe once a month) “I need to sell some.” Then I realize I’d have to CHOOSE…to actually sell some.

I need to sell some…🙄

There's A scary thought! I guess as we all will eventually get older that is a distinct possibility that I had not considered.

I fear the snowball effect. That's my only real problem. Well, that and the fact that knives is just one of my hobbies. It's the worry that, once I've committed to unloading any portion of the hoard, I'll keep on rolling. Sure, space is nice to have, too. What I've long needed, but haven't been afforded, is the means to curate - thoughtfully; to choose to retain only the most important examples and to pass along the pieces that I'll always admire but should not simply be lost in my pile.

When I started in earnest, fellow hobbyists who were the age I am now tried to tell me this. Dragons, they were. A dragon have I become.

Just don't say where your wife can hear that "you need to get rid of some knives".

Sadly, economic reasons have forced me to sell a fair number of knives. It sure hurts to see them go away. But to quote Tolkien, one who cannot cast away a treasure at need is in fetters.

I've gradually been selling some knives from my collection as well and agree that it isn't easy. I've been telling myself that: (1) I've enjoyed acquiring and having them; (2) I'm not going to be around forever; and (3) it's time for someone else to enjoy acquiring and having them. Sometimes it works ...

I do this all the time LOL. I do sell the knives i don't like, either because of ergos, materials, cutability, use case etc. There have been a few i was trying to sale but glad no one bought them because i did end up liking them after all. I generally use all of my knives, but there are a few i have and that intend buy that will probably not get used.

Oh yeah.

I have trouble selling anything I buy.

I’m far from a hoarder but I’m definitely a collector of many things.

Guns, knives, belt buckles, hats, etc.

Unfortunately I have a bad glitch of wanting to collect all sorts of things.

My brother is the same way.
