YES!! How to remove the liner of the Tweener sheaths.

Thank Geezus! I think this will make some people happy.

It is a piece of cake to get the tweener sheath insert out. One the back of the sheath at the bottom (just above the leg tie down rivets) you'll see a single horizontal line of stitching. Take a fine tip, pointy knife (a utility knife will work) and carefully cut the stitches about half an inch, right at the center. That is where the single liner-retainer tab is located. Once that is cut, the liner should pull right out. WAY easier than the old stock sheaths. The liner looks a little more solid too.

I'm going to hit it with the heat gun and give it a squeeze. This should give the sheath much better retention. Not really worried about rubbing the coating...it'll be going bye-bye soon anyway.

Sorry, no pics at the moment.

Hmm, any ideas about the option of putting a screw through the bottom like the Spec Ops so it's more easily removable? I know I'm talking about defiling a top of the line sheath, but I really like the Spec Ops sheaths but they're all to big for the 16!

Don't squeeze it, just bend it a little bit. Check out the thread I did on dyeing the sheath.

Oxide, if you get an eyelet and eyelet setter from a craft store, you can punch a hole and put an eyelet in (which will provide support for a Chicago screw)...is there enough liner length beyond the point?

Thanks for doing the head work on this. I can tell you're probably writing it as you do your mods. I would have sat there trying to remove side tabs like on the big sheaths lol.

Oxide,
I've heard the sheaths are all meant to fit the 15 size, so the 16 and 17 might leave enough room from the tip to do the eyelet, or secure it with a screw, though I think an open eyelet would give more options for tie downs and stuff. Just gotta make sure the tip doesn't hit it.

Haze answered it before I could, but the answer as far as I know is yes, because the 15, 16 and 17 all share the same sheath.

That's what I thought, wouldn't the fact that it fits the 15 make it plenty long (almost an entire extra inch or so I thought) for an eyelet near the bottom? I think it would take like 3 eyelets, one in the front of the sheath, one in the liner and one in the back of the sheath.

Thank you C_Tanner for this thread, you just opened up the doors for me and everyone else to mod my sheath beyond cutting a strap and dyeing it.

needs pictures :)

If you can't look at what I wrote and and figure it out...MAYBE you shouldn't be playing with knives. (jk)

Too late. I did it quick (because it was easy) and it's all done. After pics are in the "BEHOLD" thread, post one of the sheath, but none of pulling it out...just how I "shortened" the sheath,

The liner has gone back to its usual state of no retention at all. Looking for plan B. Tried putting a 1/4 pin down in front of the plastic sleeve thinking that pressing on it would create tension, but of course, it did not.

I just cannot decide how to resheath this thing, so trying to make the factory sheath better till I do.
