I've been trying for over a year, and finally made a billet with no bad welds. I'm working on a couple more knives from the same billet, but this is the first one to get finished.
Steels are 1080, 1095, and 8670. Handle is black paper micarta, buffed to a nice shine.
I didn't do any pattern manipulation on this one, but because I used the drawing dies on my power hammer to do the welding and drawing out, it has kind of a ladder pattern. :)

Thanks for looking!
Phillip

That looks great!! It is a beautiful knife. I love the polished paper micarta handle too.

I like the look of this knife alot, the damascus looks well done and compliments the pattern.

I know I just commented on this piece, however upon further inspection, I think this knife is incredible.
The blade and handle shape complement each other perfectly.
The Damascus is remarkable.
I like natural handle materials, however the selection and polishing of the micarta here is just right.

Beautiful pattern! Hard to beleiev that it is your first go at it. Not a ladder, but a "whooped it into shape with the power hammer not-so-random" random pattern, i guess:D Now for the bad news....you may get the same thing next time or spend the next ten years trying to reproduce it;) You BEST be making a real fancy embellished knife out of what you have left, sir!!!! lol

Just in case anyone wants a recommendation, I have 2 of Phillips knives and would recommend him if anyone wants a knife made up

hey, that looks really good, beautiful! congrats on the pattern weld! someday, I hope, I'll accomplish the same.

Stunning Damascus, really like the recurve blade and the handle complements it superbly.

I'm not a great fan of damascus but that looks really nice. What really wow's me is the design and the workmanship. Very nice. I'd like to see a satin finish with a slightly tackier finish on the micarta for a great working knife. Good job.

This isn't my first try, just the first billet where I had enough good material to do some fixed blades. I've made about 4 folder blades up to now.

I'll post a pic tomorrow of one of the other blades. :)

Thanks everyone for the compliments!
I'm looking forward to making more like this...
