Your bananas made it through the winter frost. Mine took a real beating along with the arecas. Looking forward to getting my 12" machete

Peter, we're a bit farther south than you, and although it was downright cold here (for us...) we didn't have any frost. All plants and fruit made it safely, and we're eating bananas like crazy. This crop is very sweet.

Man, banana trees are one of the main things I miss about south Florida. Free food and the leaves are good for roofing a shelter or a bush kitchen.

A ton of my orchids are starting to bloom now as well. Days in the mid 80's, nights in low 70's. No coconuts on the trees yet as they didn't like the cold winter we had, but when they come in I'll give the ol' FF machete a trial on them too. I'm anxiously awaiting my 16" machete cause I've got a bunch of clearing to do in my 'jungle', but there doesn't seem to be much progress on them, and Machete Specialists are sold out. I hate to go buy a cheapie at this point...

Banana leaves are tough aren't they? We use them for pig roasts and as you mentioned to line the roof of a temporary structure down here. Not to forget they make a mighty tasty snack as well. RIght now the bunches are big and we've got too many, we're freezing them for later use in muffins and smoothies... maybe a shot of 151 in that smoothie?

When we lived in Lakeland we rented a house that had a pink grapefruit tree in the back yard. Seemed to make a thousand at a time. Sweetest I've ever had. I regret that I hadn't given avacado's a chance when we lived in Ft. Lauderdale. We had a tree that dropped them constantly.

Great pic. Thanks!!

I absolutely love the fruit bearing trees in florida. Avacados, bananas, papaya, coconut, citrus...everything except mangos. I didn't know I was allergic to mangos until I moved here from Canada. I first got a place with a mango grove on the property...thought I died and went to heaven until I almost died and went to heaven after eating a few. I was totally shocked at how violent the reaction was! I looked like the biggest strawberry you've ever seen! Itchy and painful as hell!
I can laugh about it now, but it was scary when I had no idea what caused it at the time. They seem to be the only thing I am seriously allergic to. Now I double check at restaurants down here because mangos seem to make thier way into just about every menu.
Kinda sucks because I really like the taste of them, lol.
