I've been away from BFC and out-of-touch with the latest in knives for a while. I need a working folder, with good steal, frame/liner/axis lock, blade length around three inches, will consider longer. Price cap of $125 or so.

I am currently using a Delica which I like a lot, but its time for change.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Suggest you take a serious look at the current Spyderco Native FRN. The blade is S30V steel which takes and holds a wicked sharp edge. Blade is considerably thicker blade than the Delica, but (probably because of the blade shape) the knife seems to weighs about the same. IMHO, the handle shape, combined with the choil and ribbed spine, allow a greater variety of hand positions that are both safe and comfortable. The only "downside" is that it can be had WAY below your price cap. :D

Spyderco knives are decent values. The carbon fibre Delica looks nice. On the other side is the Buck Strider which is quite heavy-duty.

Tsk Tsk, Spyderco Knives are "excellent values". ;)

p.s. - Native is a great idea. Take a look at the Chinook, Police, Military, and the whole list of other good Spydies as well.

I would recommend a Greco Framelock folder.

You can get them off of his website for just under your price cap, but if you shop around they can be had for half of that (or less).

If you intend for this knife to be a true working folder then I know of no better alternative than the Greco folders. I generally pay little attnetion to the minutae of steel performance, but I have been very impressed with the way my Greco will hold an edge.

The design is simple but effective, and entirely accessable by the user. In my opinion a knife that cannot be easily disassembled and cleaned out is not at all suited to using for general utility work. The frame lock design is reliable and very strong, as well as resistant to getting clogged up with dirt.

I can't speak for the other designs, but the blade geometry on my Falcon is excellent for general usage.

If there is a better true utility folder on the market I am unaware of it. Other knives may be shinier and fancier but the Greco folders work better.

I'll say it before anyone else does - save a little more & get a Buck Mayo. BM 710 HS or BM 806 D2 are great but closer to 4" blades. The Greco - I don't own one but have played with them at John's booth at a show - is a VERY sturdy knife, while not being too bulky, but somewhat lacking in elegance. Which can become an issue after a short while, since who doesn't want to use a cool-looking knife?
