Yes, virginia, there is a santa claus

and sometimes he comes early.

only one other ebay bidder and they only bid a token amount. i got this for the token amount plus £1 ($1.5), less than a bucket of kentucky colonel's finest, i'll have to work about 15 min. OT to pay for it.... 12in LOA

anyhow, thought y'all might appreciate it....

ebay is a strange beast, was also bidding today on a oss style one-piece spike dagger & leather leg sheath, it went rapidly (last 10 minutes) from half my max bid to 20 times my bid & wound up over £500.00 ($750.00)* two people REALLY wanted that one (only 5 bidders total) , yet this is MUCH nicer & nobody but me and the other bidder even bid on it. sometimes yer the dawg, and sometimes yer the fireplug.

*- i can buy a similar trefoil spike dagger with a kraton handle & a stainless steel blade for £15 with a nylon sheath. provinance and history is the difference i guess. either one will do the same job in the end. if i decide to buy the new spike, it will cost me more than the bone handled dirk....

and if bruise is looking, i already et the kaintucky fried chicken....

Outrageous. I've only scored once like that on ebay. My JP shop 1 BSI. Couldn't believe I got it for what I did. I revere it now.

Awesome! Congrats and remember that I have a birthday coming up! ;)

That's a neat piece. Where's if from? What is etched into the blade?

Congrats!

Steve

Incredibly strange that E-bay stuff. I don't know how many times I've seen something sweetly or fairly priced go through the roof during the last few minutes. (dang snipers! )

I've never scored like THAT on Ebay....that's sweet!

Best I've done was a NIB condition Emerson CQC-13 for $100 or so, that was nice, but not like your find!

Congrats and enjoy!

Seller thought it was from the middle east, but it does not strike me as such, looks more like a small naval midshipmans dagger or dirk possibly a present as he was sent off to war. apparently has 'pure steel' marked on one side, and 'good luck' on the other, in english, along with the rest of the blade etching, so i'd suspect either english or american origin. i'll know more in a couple of days when it arrives & i can see if there are any other markings....will post more photos.

Nice snag, that knife is sweet!! :D Please keep us up to date on it's arivel and any information you can gather about it.

well, i posted it on the ethnographic weapons forum & so far they say it is:

a (moroccan) koummya (no way!/wpk)

a kirpan (?)

a nice example of an american naval dirk (1805-1815) (from one of their reseach experts)

a cheap indian ripoff with a cheap scabbard with indian kukhri like markings as sold for the masses on ebay

found another link with one just like it, slightly different grip: Linky

anyway, they've got me more confused than informed.....if it is a cheap ebay ripoff, glad i only paid a tenner for it. still like it though.

edited: found this other Linky - looks like mine is a repro, in a way i'm glad in that i can sharpen & use the thing without feeling guilty. i'm gonna stick to asian sharp pointy things rather than european ones i think. or i'll try to be a bit more careful....
