Now this will seem strange to our Western minds but as a part of the Dasein celebration Mananawami Puja consists of the blessing of vehicles and factories. This is done by giving "mar" which is the sacrificing of animals. In attendance for the Mananawami Puja at BirGorkha:

Pala
Gelbu
Nima (Pala's ranch foreman for 40 years)
Bura and family
Sanu and family
Murali and family
Suraj (apprentice) and family
Baburam (new kami) and family

I was surprised at the number taking part in the puja but it shows how important they consider BirGorkha and its operation to be. A goat was sacrificed and then cooked which provided more food than could be consumed so there was plenty of "go boxes" which I know the kamis will appreciate. Having goat meat to eat is a special treat for them.

All work in progress received a special blessing, all tools and equipment blessed, the factory building itself blessed, all HI personnel not in attendance (including me, Yangdu, Vikash and Chokpa), all customers (each and everyone), Gelbu's motorcycle blessed, and just about everything and everybody else one might be able to think of.

It is simply part of the deal. I am sorry I could not attend personally because I know they had a fine time.

There may be pix coming but am not sure.

Thanks for the update on what's going on at BirGorkha, Uncle Bill. We forumites do like to keep up with what's going on in "our" shop.

Bill, Rusty-

No clarification necessary at this time. Idleness crisis has passed.

Finnean,
"White monkey" (Queerie Bandar in Nepalese) is "a pretty common slang name for foreigners,...especially those who are fair haired and light skinned. It is really not meant to be demeaning", according to Uncle Bill.

Thanks Berkley,

With my idleness has passed a small part of my ignorance.
